La rédaction Et oui, le Belgo tente à nouveau de renaître après une année 2007 un peu chamboulée qui laura vu effectuer un come-back certes, mais seulement partiel (deux numéros parus). Bien sûr, Belgo na jamais vraiment cessé dexister puisquil a connu un avatar électronique, BelgoNet, certes plus succin mais paraissant lui avec une belle régularité mensuelle grâce à linfatigable Frank Segers et de nombreux contributeurs. Cest à Cédric Declerfayt et Marie Jemine que revient le mérite de tenter à présent de relancer le Belgo. Marie assurant le lourd travail de mise en page, tandis que Cédric traduira les fichiers techniques dun format .sgf (électronique) vers un format .pdf (papier). Nous espérons que ces initiatives seront relayées par dautres volontaires, prêts à alimenter soit les BelgoNets soit le Belgo par leurs articles Certains sinterrogeront sans doute sur lopportunité de ressusciter un journal en format papier. Il nous semble pourtant que les raisons ne manquent pas: outre la satisfaction de poursuivre une uvre lancée il y a 23 ans (le premier numéro de Belgo remonte à 1985), la version papier est un meilleur support pour la conservation des informations relatives à lhistoire du Go dans notre pays. Il sera aussi accessible à ceux de nos membres ne disposant pas dInternet, et, last but not least, permettra à ceux de nos membres rétifs à la lecture darticles sur écran dordinateur de parcourir leur revue favorite lovés dans le fond de leur fauteuil devant leur beau goban en bois ! Il nen reste pas moins que le défi à relever pour une aussi petite fédération que la nôtre est considérable vu dune part limportant travail de mise en page et dautre part le coût non négligeable de production et denvoi dune revue papier.. C'est d'ailleurs pourquoi le Belgo ne sera plus envoyé, à partir du prochain numéro, qu'aux membres qui le souhaiteront explicitement (en envoyant un mail avec leur adresse complète à [email protected]), et que le contenu en sera pour l'essentiel composé des textes parus dans le BelgoNet du trimestre et de quelques-uns seulement des articles techniques et des parties commentées de ces Belgonets. Ce premier numéro de lannée 2008 présente des comptes-rendus de tournois (Paris, Leuven), les résultats des grandes compétitions mondiales, européennes et des tournois belges. Pour ces derniers, nous revenons aussi sur l'année 2007 pour combler ainsi la parution incomplète de Belgo lannée dernière. Comme dhabitude, vous trouverez également quelques parties commentées. Mais la grande nouveauté, cest que nous disposons dorénavant dun envoyé spécial en Corée en la personne de Benjamin Gigot. Ben a rejoint sa belle qui est coréenne, et habite là-bas depuis maintenant 2 ans. Il nous enverra régulièrement des billets sur la vie du baduk coréen. Enfin, nous vous invitons à prendre connaissance du calendrier des activités que nous proposerons pour 2008 et de parcourir le compte-rendu de notre AG où sont décrites les initiatives que nous avons prises pour rendre la pratique du Go en Belgique toujours plus populaire et plus agréable Bonne lecture !     EAI Working Paper Series II. Veterans and the Failure of Martial Citizenship in China∗T Neil J. Diamant Missing Days The Chinese state, like many modern ones, has two calendars. The first, shaped by culture and history, is the more familiar one: all students in courses in East Asian Studies departments learn about Chinese New Year, the Moon and Dragon Boat Festivals, Qingming (Tomb-Sweeping) and others. The other, less familiar to foreigners, is the political calendar. Its features, however, are readily recognizable: a day celebrating a political founding (Oct. 1, 1949 in the PRC; Jan. 1, 1912 in Taiwan), critical junctures in history, or the contributions of various social groups to national development (for example, May 1st for labor, March 8 for women). Sometimes cultural and political holidays overlap—the ROC government notes that, during the Qingming festival, it is “customary to visit the tombs of the martyrs or the revolution”—but usually the calendars remain separate, and change little or only incrementally, usually accompanied by controversy. Governments, like leaders of organized religion, understand the need to maintain ritual and routine to sustain legitimacy, and attempt to create rituals that speak to the heart of their citizens.i Despite the plethora of political events and the variety of groups they commemorate, two days are conspicuously missing from the PRC’s political calendar: a “Veterans Day” and “Memorial Day.”ii Even though the CCP emerged victorious from its decades-long rivalry with the Nationalist Party, awarded veterans high class status, claims victory in the war against Japan and the United States in the Sino- Japanese and Korean Wars respectively, defeated the Indian Army in the border wars of the early 1960s, there is not a single holiday devoted to the people responsible for these accomplishments.iii Nor, for that 1 Veterans and the Failure of Martial Citizenship in China matter, are there any stadiums, bridges, parks, or road commemorating veterans, although “Workers Stadiums” abound.

E-mail: [email protected] Received: Mach 22, 2018 Accepted: April 9, 2018 Online Published: April 25, 2018 doi:10.5539/mas.v12n5p34 URL: https://doi.org/10.5539/mas.v12n5p34 Abstract This study analyzes a Japanese mobile phone e-mail data corpus (created by the researcher) of 43,295 Keitai-mail exchanged for the purpose of personal communication by 60 young people aged 18 to 30 who are familiar with Keitai-mail practices. The result shows that the Keitai-mail analyzed consists on average of approximately 40 moji (symbols) including 3 emoticons per message, showing that composition is short but not overly abrupt – generally Keitai-mail does not finish in the middle of a sentence. Non-standard textual elements, language plays (LP) such as emoticons, long vowel symbols, irregular use of small moji, and non-standard use of each type of script (e.g., use of Katakana instead of Kanji) are found to be governed by the conventions of Standard Japanese and are not totally random occurrences.     Evanston Go Club Ian Feldman Lending Library A Compendium of Trick Plays Nihon Ki-in In this unique anthology, the reader will find the subject of trick plays in the game of go dealt with in a thorough manner. Practically anything one could wish to know about the subject is examined from multiple perpectives in this remarkable volume. Vital points in common patterns, skillful finesse (tesuji) and ordinary matters of good technique are discussed, as well as the pitfalls that are concealed in seemingly innocuous positions. This is a gem of a handbook that belongs on the bookshelf of every go player. Chapter 1 was written by Ishida Yoshio, former Meijin-Honinbo, who intimates that if "joseki can be said to be the highway, trick plays may be called a back alley. When one masters the alleyways, one is on course to master joseki." Thirty-five model trick plays are presented in this chapter, #204 and exhaustively analyzed in the style of a dictionary. Kageyama Toshiro 7 dan, one of the most popular go writers, examines the subject in Chapter 2 from the standpoint of full board strategy. Chapter 3 is written by Mihori Sho, who collaborated with Sakata Eio to produce Killer of Go. Anecdotes from the history of go, famous sayings by Sun Tzu on the Art of Warfare and contemporary examples of trickery are woven together to produce an entertaining dialogue. The final chapter presents twenty-five problems for the reader to solve, using the knowledge gained in the preceding sections. Do not be surprised to find unexpected booby traps lurking here also.

Cho recently lost the Honindo to Takao with only 2 wins in the 6 games played. Cho’s record again Takao (see table below sourced from http://gobase.org/information/games/) could be better – out of 9 games played there are 6 wins for Takao compared to 3 for Cho. The 31st Mejin was shaping up much the same, with Takao winning the first two games. Cho U proved he was not a pushover with a decisive win in the 3rd game.     EAI Working Paper Series II. Veterans and the Failure of Martial Citizenship in China∗T Neil J. Diamant Missing Days The Chinese state, like many modern ones, has two calendars. The first, shaped by culture and history, is the more familiar one: all students in courses in East Asian Studies departments learn about Chinese New Year, the Moon and Dragon Boat Festivals, Qingming (Tomb-Sweeping) and others. The other, less familiar to foreigners, is the political calendar. Its features, however, are readily recognizable: a day celebrating a political founding (Oct. 1, 1949 in the PRC; Jan. 1, 1912 in Taiwan), critical junctures in history, or the contributions of various social groups to national development (for example, May 1st for labor, March 8 for women). Sometimes cultural and political holidays overlap—the ROC government notes that, during the Qingming festival, it is “customary to visit the tombs of the martyrs or the revolution”—but usually the calendars remain separate, and change little or only incrementally, usually accompanied by controversy. Governments, like leaders of organized religion, understand the need to maintain ritual and routine to sustain legitimacy, and attempt to create rituals that speak to the heart of their citizens.i Despite the plethora of political events and the variety of groups they commemorate, two days are conspicuously missing from the PRC’s political calendar: a “Veterans Day” and “Memorial Day.”ii Even though the CCP emerged victorious from its decades-long rivalry with the Nationalist Party, awarded veterans high class status, claims victory in the war against Japan and the United States in the Sino- Japanese and Korean Wars respectively, defeated the Indian Army in the border wars of the early 1960s, there is not a single holiday devoted to the people responsible for these accomplishments.iii Nor, for that 1 Veterans and the Failure of Martial Citizenship in China matter, are there any stadiums, bridges, parks, or road commemorating veterans, although “Workers Stadiums” abound.
