Postgame Notes & Quotes Calgary Flames 6, Colorado Avalanche 3 Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 With his second-period goal, Jarome Iginla recorded his 1,282nd career point, surpassing Alex Delvecchio to take sole possession of 34th place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. It was also his third career goal and eighth career point in nine games against his former team. Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog recorded his second multi-goal game of the year (Oct. 17 at Pittsburgh). Defenseman Cody Goloubef tied a career high with two points, the third two-point night of his career (Mar. 27, 2015 at Chicago, Jan. 4, 2015 at Colorado). With two assists on the night, Nathan MacKinnon picked up his second consecutive multi-point game after tallying a goal and an assist against Chicago on Dec. 23. With the primary assist on Mikael Backlund’s first goal of the night, Matthew Tkachuk extended his point streak to four games and has now registered five points (one goal, four assists) in that span. Mikael Backlund tallied two goals and an assist for his second consecutive three-point night and third of the month. The Mikael Backlund-Michael Frolik-Matthew Tkachuk line combined for five points (two goals, three assists) and has now accounted for 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in Calgary’s last two outings. The Avalanche’s six power-play opportunities matches a season high. Colorado has had six man-advantage chances in four other games this season: Oct. 17 at Pittsburgh, Nov. 6 at St. Louis, Dec. 16 vs. Florida, Dec. 22 vs. Toronto. Colorado G Calvin Pickard On The Second Period: “We came out and we didn’t have a very good second. Obviously, four goals against but other than that, we didn’t do much in terms of playing a good system. I’m pretty speechless with that game. It’s tough. You know, I felt good even after the second, four goals after the second, I felt good but it’s a painful result for sure.” On The Avs’ Performance After The Timeout: “Yeah we came out, I think we scored right away. They scored after we scored so it was kind of a pressure point in the game. You know, it’s 3-2 and right there for us. We gave one right back so it’s tough. We have to get into the end of the second 3-2 or maybe tied. I don’t know what else I can say about that, it was a painful game.” Colorado RW Jarome Iginla On The Second Period: “It was tough. The bounces were some unfortunate ones but at the same time, that’s part of sports and we know we can’t sit there and say it was all bounces. You know, you feel for Picks (Colorado G Calvin Pickard) in there when they are bouncing off the back and through people and stuff but at the same time, it’s in our zone and we are not pushing it their way and stuff like that. Like I said, there were some unfortunate plays but we still take responsibility for that and have to find ways to be better. They were better than us tonight.” On The Power Play: “It’s definitely, there’s no question, it’s in a bit of a little spell. All I can say is that we know it’s a responsibility and we’re trying, we’re working. The guys at the end, 5-on-3 there, they had some good looks, made some nice passes at the end of the second period. You know, what you are trying to do is just get yourselves some decent looks there and obviously you want to score but you feel like if you can get enough of them, they’ll go in and unfortunately, they didn’t there and that’s tough. It’s hard on the whole group because we know as a power play in that position, that’s a big goal if we can get it there. We’ll keep working at it.” Calgary RW Kris Versteeg On Tonight’s Game: “Yeah, I think luck was on our side but also if you see that second period I thought we had a lot of good chances to where some should have went in but for whatever reason it didn’t. You’re going to need those nights especially in buildings like this where it’s really tough to play in, we found a way to win.” On Traveling On A Game Day: “I mean it’s tough, you fly into high altitude on the day of the game. Everyone thinks I’m whining about it, but it is definitely not easy and they are a team who plays fast over there. We had to play a smart game in order to create chances and I think we did that tonight. They obviously scored some goals because they are extremely high-talented, but we found a way to score more and found a way to win.” Calgary LW Johnny Gaudreau On Tonight’s Game: “I think we showed some character. It’s a long day like you said, getting up at six getting on the plane and flying all the way out here and then taking a long bus trip to the rink here. The guys did a great job tonight and played the right way.” On The Bounces: “The puck was bouncing all night tonight, we said in the locker room let’s get pucks in the net in the second period. Good things happen when you get the pucks in the net, we found a way to get a couple of greasy goals there.” .
