The Developing World Group will be having their annual produce sale on the weekend of October 16/17 in Hinckley Mission Support Assistant The Diocese of Nottingham is seeking to employ a committed Catholic, with experience in administration, who wants to see the Church grow and have a greater impact in the East Midlands. The successful candidate would support the work of the outreach departments of the diocesan curia in spreading the Gospel and reaching the marginalised. They will work with the Adult Formation for Mission and Communications departments, as well as supporting the Ongoing Formation of Clergy and the work for Social Action with the poor and marginalised. This is a vital role in promoting and furthering the diocesan vision for providing encounters with God, forming disciples in Christ, and equipping spirit-filled missionary disciples. This is a permanent full-time post (37½ hrs/week), although job sharing may be a possibility. You are invited to join them for refreshments in the Mary Forryan Centre after Mass in Hinckley. Community Memorial Mass – the funerals of over 100 members of our communities have taken place, often in a very restricted manner, during the lockdown period. We want to commemorate them and invite their families to join us in the best way possible. We will be doing this at a special Mass on Friday October 1st at 7.00pm in Hinckley, followed by tea and coffee in the centre. The families will have received invitations and everyone is welcome. We could do with some help making the tea and coffee afterwards, so if you can help please see Marina. This Mass will replace the normal November service for our deceased parishioners. Lourdes Group Bingo Tea – resumes on Saturday October 2nd at 2.30pm in Hinckley Don Bosco Group – for young people aged 8-14, resumes on Monday September 27th from 6.00- 7.45pm in the centre at Hinckley. All young people welcome to join our happy group for games, art and conversation. SPANNED magazines – are on sale this weekend at £3 each – thank you for your support. Today’s SPANNED is Mass available on YouTube tomorrow Play rehearsal – this afternoon at 2.30pm in the parish centre. MacMillan Coffee Morning - On Tuesday 21st September 10.00am – 1.00pm at Hinckley Methodist Church. Coffee, cakes and stalls. Everyone is most welcome to support this worthy cause. Refreshments after Sunday Mass - we have now restarted coffee and tea after the Sunday Mass in all our communities – you are all most welcome. Tuesday Discussion Group – for people at home during the day, will take place on September 28th, October 5th and 12th from 2.00-3.00pm in the Mary Forryan Centre with tea, coffee and a conversation about a short passage from the New Testament, exploring its meaning for today. Walk along the road to reach the Royal Arms pub. Turn left and go through the car park. Continue straight ahead across the (usually ploughed) field. Go through the gap and turn sharp right. Walk with the hedge on your right to the end of the field and go through the gap. (The track goes left down and round the edge of the field.) Follow the footpath diagonally across the field corner, aiming for the house ahead in Spring Wood.

Lunch Leicester Cathedral Built on the site of a Roman temple and dedicated to St Martin of Tours, Leicester Cathedral has been embedded in the life of the local community since medieval times. There has been a major memorial to King Richard III in the Chancel of the Cathedral since 1980. This has been the focus for remembrance, particularly on the anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth.

  • Sheepy Parva… (Scepehe in the Domesday Book; Previously Known As Little
    Sheepy Parva… (Scepehe in the Domesday Book; previously known as Little Sheepy). This pretty hamlet meets its larger neighbour at a bridge over the River Sence by an area which was occupied by a grain mill from Norman times to the 1990s. By the 1770s it had become the largest in the county and provided work and housing for many locals. The mill’s horses and carts, subsequently replaced by a fleet of steam lorries, were a familiar sight around Leicestershire and Warwickshire. Most of the buildings were demolished in 1998 but part of it was renovated to form 4 apartments. The Grade 2 listed Manor House was built in 1605 and traditionally housed the mill’s manager. The very scenic Sheepy Lake, formerly the Mill Pool was created circa 1800. On the outskirts of the hamlet is a ford crossing adjoining a medieval packhorse bridge known as Lovett’s/Lovatt’s Bridge. The origin of this name is still unknown. Pinwall…(formerly known as Pinwell or Pinnals) is located around the crossroads of former turnpike roads where the Red Lion Inn welcomed travellers for over 250 years until its recent closure. The toll cottage was demolished in the 1870s. Grade 2 listed Fieldon Bridge is an ancient crossing (a pontage for the repair of the bridge was granted to the Abbot of Merevale in 1332). It was rebuilt in 1786. The original site of Pinwall Grange, a monastic grange of Merevale Abbey was to the northwest of the hamlet, where there are remains of a medieval moat.
