DETROIT – Olympia Development of Michigan joins the award-winning Sahara Restaurant & Grill to announce that the local favorite will bring its unique Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors to The District Detroit by opening its first location in the city next year. The 4,500-square-foot space will be in the retail space now under construction at the Little Caesars world headquarters campus expansion on Columbia Street.

"We're bringing the taste and authenticity of Chaldean and Mediterranean food into Detroit. Sahara has been around for 37 years and we're excited about being able to do that,” said Zeana Attisha, co-owner of Sahara Restaurant & Grill in Oak Park, Sahara Restaurant & Banquet Center in Sterling Heights and Sahara Market & Bakery in Warren and the forthcoming location in The District Detroit. “It is very exciting because there's going to be constant activity. We’re going to be part of a community of fun dining experiences, games and concerts.”

Patrons can expect dishes prepared by highly-trained cooks that use locally-sourced foods and ingredients from area farmers and food suppliers. The new restaurant menu will feature “a little Motor City Flair,” along with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern favorites, like grape leaves, falafel, fattoush, tabbouleh and varieties of meat shawarma, which is cooked on a rotating vertical rotisserie cone and often stuffed inside pita sandwiches.

TIN ROOF COMING TO THE DISTRICT DETROIT

This highly-successful brand, with a focus on food, fun and live music; will occupy 47 East Adams near Comerica Park, Ford Field and the historic Fox Theatre

This music-centered entertainment destination will activate two floors and the roof deck

Olympia Development of Michigan continues to bring new tenants to The District Detroit

DETROIT – Tin Roof and Olympia Development of Michigan today announced that Tin Roof will join the city's continuing resurgence in The District Detroit. Tin Roof will be located at 47 East Adams, formerly occupied by Cheli's Chili Bar. Tin Roof will bring dozens of employees and its highly-successful combination of Southern-inspired “Better Than Bar Food,” fun and live music to this high-profile location. Like other Tin Roof restaurants, the location in Detroit will create opportunities for local, emerging musicians to showcase their talents, along with regional and national artists across all genres.

“Detroit is such a great city with a great musical heritage and it has been on our radar for a long time,” said Bob Franklin, CEO of Tin Roof. “We know this is the right time and we could not be happier with the location near Comerica Park, Ford Field and the historic Fox Theatre in The District Detroit.”

Part of Tin Roof’s goal is to create opportunities for its crew and musicians, while creating a unique atmosphere for those who love live music, good food and a fun time. Live music can be expected frequently, both indoors and on the rooftop deck. "With additions like Tin Roof, this is a very exciting time for the city and for The District Detroit,” said Travis Arbogast, Vice President of Development at Olympia Development of Michigan. “It is very rewarding to attract a wide variety of exciting and successful businesses like Tin Roof.”

Unique Dining Destination: A Live Music Joint The Original Tin Roof opened in 2002 near Nashville’s famed Music Row and gave musicians a place to play and a place to hang out when they weren’t on stage. The tasty food, fun, eclectic environment, “community of regulars” and friendly crew helped quickly establish “The Roof” as the place to be for musicians, anyone who likes good food and a good time. Over the years, their stages have hosted the famous, the should-have-been- famous and everyone in between.

The restaurant group behind suburban hotspots Vinsetta Garage, Clarkston Union, Gran Castor and more is bringing a new restaurant to Detroit proper.

In a joint press release with Olympia Development, Clarkston-based Union Joints announced it would be opening an as-yet-undisclosed dining concept to anchor the Little Caesars headquarters campus expansion at Woodward and Columbia in Detroit.

The 14,000-square-foot space will feature a second-floor patio with elevated views of Comerica Park.

“We’ve always been drawn to buildings that provided something you just couldn’t replicate, and this location — with the Fox and Fillmore as bookends, Comerica Park on its front porch near Little Caesars Arena and Ford Field — is absolutely unimaginable,” said Union Joints co-owner Curt Catallo in the release.

The restaurant group is known for re-purposing mostly historic buildings for its restaurants. This new venture, set to become part of the Ilitch's District Detroit development, will be its first new-construction project.

As with other Union Joints, Catallo's wife and business partner Ann Stevenson will be overseeing the design, though she's paired with Tamas von Staden of von Staden Architects on the new project.

The new restaurant joins previously announced Frita Batidos (/story/entertainment/dining/2018/09/06/frita-batidos-open-district-detroit-fox-theatre- 2019/1216538002/) and Sahara Restaurant & Grill (http://www.districtdetroit.com/press-releases/sahara-restaurant-grill-to-open-first-detroit-location-on- columbia-street) on Columbia Street.

According to the release, funding for the new Union Joint has been secured and the goal is to open before the end of the year, but that's contingent upon city approval and other complex moving parts.
