First case of an andromorphic female of Urothemis signata from eastern India is presented. Detail comparisons of the andromorphic female with mature male and female of this species are given. Se proporcionan comparaciones detalladas de la hembra andromórfica con machos y hembras maduras de esta especie. Palabras clave: Anisoptera, andromórficos, Zygoptera. Urothemis signata Rambur, 1842 is a commonly found Libellulid in Oriental and Australian region (Dow 2010). Usually, the adults of this dragonfly exhibit sexual dimorphism (Fraser 1936). Mature males of this species are striking red with reddish face, thorax and abdomen, while mature females are yellowish (Fraser 1936; De Fonseka 2000). Male mimic females or andromorphs are commonly found in Zygoptera. Hybridization and coloration in females further complicate identifications based on their morphological features (Márquez-Rodríguez and Vega-Maqueda 2016). Furthermore it is estimated that andromorphs are found in 54% genera of European Zygoptera (Cordero and Andres 1996). Andromorph females are commonly found in Zygoptera where it represents true polychromatism (Corbet 1999). -

Deepor beel bird sanctuary lies between 26° 7' 52" N; 91° 38' 70" E in Kamrup district. A total of Life-Science Department, 39 species belonging to 5 families and 22 genera were recorded from Deepor beel bird sanctuary. We Assam University, Silchar also recorded Ceriagrion rubiae and Agriocnemis kalinga, which is the first formal record from Assam. In case of sub order Anisoptera (Dragonflies), family Libellulidae was the most dominant family. In case of sub order Zygoptera (Damselflies) Rhyothemis variegata was the most abundant species in the study area. In case of sub order Zygoptera (Damselflies) Pseudagrion microcephalum was the most abundant species in Deepor beel bird sanctuary. Keywords: Anisoptera, Deepor beel, Habitat, Zygoptera, Assam 1. However, Brauer synonymised the genus Polyneura under the present genus and this arrangement was accepted by all later workers. From the Indian limits, 2 species and 4 subspecies of the present genus, viz. fluctuans Fabricius, fulvia (Drury), intermedia intermedia (Rambur), intermedia degener Selys, intermedia atlanta Ris and tullia tullia (Drury) are known. In the present work, the genus is represented by fluctuans Fabricius, fulvia (Drury), intermedia intermedia (Rambur) and tullia tullia (Drury), as distribution of other species of this genus is confined to Eastern India. -

(Corresponding author: Gaurav Sharma, [email protected]) (Published by Research Trend, Website: www.biobulletin.com) (Received 02 January 2017; Accepted 04 February 2017) ABSTRACT: The reproductive behaviour of Pantala flavescens (Fabricius) was studied in different localities of Aravalli Range and Desert Ecosystem of Rajasthan during 2008-15. Courtship is well marked and male demonstrate a circular territory with a radius of about 4-6 meters and defended it from the intruding intra or some inter specific male by chasing it away or by warning signals like wing vibration or abdomen raising. As female entered into the territory, the male starts following her and forms a tandem link, catching hold of her prothorax by his anal appendages. The before wheel tandem lasted for 10-40 seconds and during this period intramale sperm translocation is not observed. The male forced female to form courtship wheel. The courtship wheel lasts for about 70 seconds to 3 minutes and is performed in air above water body. The courtship wheel breaks and in tandem position the female oviposit exophtically on the surface of water and it lasts for 60 seconds to 2 minutes. During oviposition the male in tandem and after release of grip hovers around the female, to defend her from intruding intra or inter specific males. -

Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, District Nadia, West Bengal, 741252, India E-mail address: [email protected] ABSTRACT This study highlights the 75 species of dragonfly fauna associated with rice ecosystems in eastern India out of which 15 species were regular and rest were sporadic. From the general taxonomic point of view all the species were grouped under 5 families of under order Odonata. Comparing different body parts the double branching keys were prepared for easy identification of 15 common dragonfly species recorded in rice ecosystems of West Bengal. Each key begins with a couplet (a pair of alternative) and each of which leads to another couplet. Finally the reader reaches the specific identity of species. Free hand drawing of wings of the 50 dragonflies were also used for separate identification of these insect species. In addition to this, different studies were made on courtship and mating, egg laying habitats, nymphal development, longevity, flight capacity of dragonfly to make the study more interesting to the reader. -

Abstract Although the Odonata are common inhabitants of various extreme environments such as geothermal springs, brackish wetlands, mangroves, and volcanic lakes, the assemblages of this group associated with extreme habitats in Australasia are rather poorly known. Here, we combine museum collection data and published reports on Odonata from extreme habitats on Flores Island, Lesser Sunda Archipelago. The highly acidic Sano Nggoang Crater Lake (mean pH = 3.17) on Flores houses seven species as follows: Agriocnemis pygmaea, Xiphiagrion cyanomelas (Coenagrionidae), Neurothemis ramburii, Orthetrum pruinosum pruinosum, O. sabina, O. testaceum soembanum (Libellulidae), and Anax gibbosulus (Aeshnidae). A coastal marsh site with slightly brackish water on Flores harbors at least five dragonfly species as follows: Diplacodes trivialis, Neurothemis intermedia excelsa, N. terminata, Pantala flavescens, and Rhyothemis phyllis ixias (Libellulidae). The migratory dragonfly Pantala flavescens was a single species recorded on the waterless Kanawa Island near the western edge of Flores. Our findings suggest that extreme habitats in eastern Indonesia primarily colonized by widespread generalist Odonata species. -

(Corresponding author: Atanu Bora) (Received 09 August 2019, Accepted 10 October 2019) (Published by Research Trend, Website: www.researchtrend.net) ABSTRACT: Odonate diversity of Saipung Reserve Forest was studied during 2016-2017. A total of 31 species belonging to two sub-orders, 5 families, and 20 genera were recorded, which include 22 species of Anisoptera and 9 species of Zygoptera. The genera Neurothemis, Orthetrum and Agriocnemis were found to be the most dominant contributing 3 species each. Being legally protected under state legislation, the forest faces high levels of human interference and anthropogenic activities. The study area therefore requires immense attention to be utilized as a prime site for odonate conservation of the state. INTRODUTION MATERIALS AND METHODS Meghalaya, being one of the seven sister states of Saipung reserve forest is located in the Jaintia hills North-East India is a narrow stretch of land lies between district of Meghalaya. The area lies between 25° 19' 24° 58′N to 26° 07′N latitudes and 89° 48′E to 92° 51′E 60"N latitudes and 92° 45' 00″E longitudes.
