Devon School Immunisation Pathways for the 2016/17 academic year Introduction This information is aimed to support local practices in understanding school aged immunisations, which have changed considerably over the past few years. This information includes: An overview of arrangements in your local area A practice checklist to help understand your responsibilities A childhood flu pathway A MenACWY pathway A Td/IPV pathway A HPV pathway Useful information, links and contacts Financial information We hope you find this information useful and clear: if you have any comments, suggestions or queries please contact the South (South West) Screening and Immunisations Team on [email protected] Overview of school aged immunisations for Devon Practices Flu in primary school In Devon flu vaccination during 2016/17 is being delivered in schools by Boots. They will be vaccinating all children in school years 1, 2 and 3. Further information can be found on pages 3 – 11 below. All secondary school aged immunisations are delivered by the school nursing team. This academic year will also see the first phase of moving MenACWY & Td/IPV vaccination from year 10 to year 9. During this academic year (2016/17) all year 10 (girls and boys) and all year 9 boys only will be vaccinated for MenACWY & Td/IPV. Next year (2017/18) all year 9 (girls and boys) and all year 10 girls will be vaccinated for MenACWY & Td/IPV. From PHE publications gateway number: N/A Published: September 2016 2018/19 onwards Devon will then be in line with the national recommended pathway of vaccinating all children for MenACWY & Td/IPV in school year 9. Further information for 2016/17 is explained below, and this will be updated in future academic years: HPV dose 1—year 8 HPV dose 2—year 9 MenACWY and Td/IPV—year 9 boys only (main cohort) MenACWY and Td/IPV—year 10 (catch-up cohort) GP checklist for Devon Practices Check that all data on immunisations delivered in schools has been uploaded onto your GP practice patient records. This data will have historically been sent to you throughout the academic year by the Child Health (CHIS) team. If you believe there is any missing data contact the Child Health (CHIS) team. Note: all flu information will be sent directly from Boots and should also be updated on your patient records. Check that all data on immunisations you have given in your practice has been sent to the Child Health (CHIS) team. If you are unsure, send it again or contact the Child Health (CHIS) team to discuss this with them. Continue to call and recall all of last year’s year 13 students for MenACWY (DOB 01.09.97—31.08.98) vaccination. Opportunistically check the vaccination status to catch up any missing immunisations. Make sure you check whether they have had two doses of MMR as well as any other missing immunisations. Offer appointments to young people with known missing immunisations: a good time to try this is in year 10 for HPV, and year 11 for MenACWY & Td/IPV after all young people have been offered vaccination in schools. Review how young people are invited for vaccinations at your surgery and whether this meets their needs. Points to consider: o Are the sessions outside of school hours? o Can the young people get to your surgery for the appointments? Consider evening or weekend sessions for parents to be able to attend appointments too. o Are you sending information leaflets to ensure young people are aware of what they are being invited for? o Are you using text messaging reminders? Make sure you are promoting school aged immunisations through leaflets, posters and through links on your website. Summary of Content Subject and Aims To provide an annual report to the Conference, through the Council, as directed by resolution 29/3 of the 2017 Conference [DR 6/8/2] Main Points Joint working and planned initiatives MAST MIST The Wesley Trust and proposed merger with the Acorn Trust (see paper MC/20/50) Introduction 1. The Methodist Schools Committee was established by Resolution 29/3 of the 2017 Conference. Its primary purposes are to ensure positive and constructive collaboration between the Methodist Academies and Schools Trust (MAST), the Methodist Independent Schools Trust (MIST), the Wesley Trust and their schools, to share resources, to encourage the development of the Methodist ethos in all our schools and to provide annually a co-ordinated report to the Conference through the Methodist Council on behalf of all Methodist Schools. Joint Working and Initiatives 2. The Trusts have worked together in the following ways: a. Actively engaging with the Methodist Schools Committee (MSC) with the Revd Dr Roger Walton as the inaugural Chair; b. Continuing through the MSC the necessary processes of discussion and identification of key areas of work required to enable the MSC, in due course, to submit to the Conference, in 2021, a schools’ educational strategy for the Church; the purpose of the strategy is to help guide future planning and interaction between the Church and the schools; c. Through the Ethos Development Group, chaired by the Revd Peter Whittaker, sharing experience and needs across the Trusts including, for example, how best to use resources such as Understanding Christianity and other RE teaching resources, including making access via the website to the Methodist story.
