Active members pay an annual (September-August) membership fee of £35, which covers the expenses of one delegate attending the annual conference in November, inclusion on the group’s portal website and access to promotion on the group’s Social Media platforms. The group is non-profit, and houses and museums volunteer in rotation to host the annual conference (or the summer planning meeting).     9 CYCLING DISCOVERY MAP Starting point: Welwyn, Hertfordshire Distance: 25 miles/40 km (or with short cut 20 miles/32 km) Type of route: Day ride - moderate, circular; on roads LITERARY LANDSCAPES Part of the Great North Way This cycle ride (part of the Great North Way) starts from the historic town of Welwyn. From here the route heads west along the valley of the River Mimram, into the foothills of The Chilterns, an area of unspoilt countryside retaining its rural atmosphere. Linked along narrow lanes are pretty villages, farmsteads and bluebell rich woodlands. This probably gave literary inspiration to playwright George Bernard Shaw whose hidden retreat can be visited. Along this route you can discover a 3rd C. Roman bathing suite, wander in the gardens of the late Queen Mother’s childhood home and explore Sir Lionel’s Palladian church. The last Order under Section 51 of the Local Government Act 1972 in relation to electoral arrangements for districts in the county of Hertfordshire was made' on 29 November 1978. As required by Section 63 and Schedule 9 of the Act we have now reviewed the electoral arrangements for that county, using the procedures we had set out in our Report No 6. 2. He was editor, and later also owner, of The Sun, an evening newspaper and one of the first daily newspapers to review books, until it folded in 1871. He was a friend of the Lytton family and corresponded with them from the 1850s until his death in 1902. Over 260 of the letters to Kent are from Robert, first Earl of Lytton, poet and statesman (1831 ­ 1891) [see D/Zl 18/C2]. The two men worked closely together on the publication of a biography of Edward Bulwer Lytton, first Baron Lytton (1803 - 1873), Robert's father - The Life, Letters and Literary Remains of Edward Bulwer, Lord Lytton - published in 1883. Theirs was a close and prolonged friendship, stated by Robert to have been inherited' from his father. This extensive series of letters ranges over more than twenty years and covers many aspects of Lytton's domestic life, political and literary career, character, and interests.
