DESCRIPTION

This productive conifer woodland has been managed commercially and was planted in the 1980s with predominantly Sitka spruce, some Lodgepole pine and a small amount of larch. There are no existing crop records. However, from our assessment of the aerial imagery we estimate that conifer crops cover approximately 15 hectares. Broadleaves and open ground make up the remaining 5.78 hectares. The conifer crops are well established and are relatively high yielding with top heights up to 17 meters and the average Diameter at Breast Height (DBH) of 26cm. There is an attractive cluster of hardwoods as you enter the forest at A1 on the sale plan and a cabin/hut could be constructed here.

The plantation is situated on relatively flat and easily worked ground which rises to 152 metres (499 feet) above sea level. The climatic conditions in the region are well-suited to growth of conifer species, with generally warm temperatures with average annual rainfall of approximately 950mm per annum.
