Spark of this peace- acting was the Bal- kan war from 1992- 1995. After this war – in 1996 – the first „pioneers” started going this way with the motto „hands for peace – give peace hands” to start reconstruction first in northern Bosnia, later in Sarajevo with young Europeans. Guiding theme for this were words right from the heart of the LORD: „Don’t stop giving” or „Be Family!” From this divided life, the youth cen- tre in Sarajevo named „Ivan Pavao II” was established where we came together in remembrance of the start of World War I 100 years ago last year. There, we sent out a peace message out to the world while performing with the arts group Gen- Rosso the musical „streetlight” with about 180 young Europe- ans. Our Pope Francis visited the youth centre in Sarajevo on June 6th 2015 and encouraged them to live together vividly and peacefully with the following statement: „You have an im- portant mission: to never build walls, but bridges!” Then it was clear: This way will go on! After the go4peace camp in 3 Kamen, Germany in 2015, where young adults from 27 dif- ferent nations participated and the camps in Shkodra 2017 and Koszalin 2018 we are happy to be in Brno this year. With more than 100 participants from Europe and the entire world, we can set a living example at the go4peace camp 2019 in Brno – in the heart of Europe – against fighting and images of the „enemy”. There is no place for such things in our hearts. With good will and hope we want to stand up for viewing strangers as brothers and sisters. I want to thank all those who invested much time, energy, money and prayers for this camp. A special „Thank you” goes out to all Teenagers and students from Brno, who made the camp possible due to their unstoppable dedication for it. You are the living hope for Europe! May we all be enriched with the message from young, devoted adults – arriving from 15 different nations – pictured at the „go4peace-Agape” in Brno on July 27th with all our homeless brothers and sisters from Brno. Together we impersonate the motto „Let’s go4peace!“ Many greetings to all of you Fr. Meinolf Wacker initiator of „go4peace” 4 WELCOME IN THE DIOCESE OF BRNO My dear young friends, it is a huge joy for me to welcome you all here in our diocese of Brno. You have decided to go to Interna- tional youth camp go4peace in Brno, where you want to build bridges of understanding between different people. You will do it in different ways of love that you will live in our city. Let it help you in your growth, so when you leave you can say: they know us about fruits, fruit that is good. As Jesus says: Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, … (Matthew 7:17). The fruit that you will bring to your home and fruit that will grow in Brno thanks to you. I wish you a blessed summer and a lot of en- ergy to building bridges. Be sure that I am going to pray for each one of you! Mgr. Look upon this continent to which you sent philosophers, lawgivers and people endowed with wisdom, precursors of that faith in your Son, fallen and risen. Look at these people evangelised by Peter and Paul, by prophets, monks and saints. Look at these regions drenched in the blood of martyrs, moved by the voice of reformers. Look at these people linked by so many bonds and ties, yet divided by hatred and war. Assist us in committing ourselves to a Europe of the Spirit, founded not just on economic treaties, but, also on values which are human and eternal; a Europe capable of ethnic and ecumenical reconciliation, quick to wel- come the stranger, respectful of human dignity. Give us confidence to see it as our duty to encourage and promote un- derstanding between peoples, which provides for all continents justice and bread, liberty and peace.
