This map is based on the work of oenologist and researcher Manuel Ruiz Hernández, who charted a very useful soil map of Rioja in the 1970s. We have added some details about the mountain chains that frame the Ebro valley as they shape Álava (Basque Country), La Rioja and a very small area of Navarra. www.spanishwinelover.com .
