May 17, 2019 Today: Sharks Vs Blues – Game 4 – 8Pm ET On EAST FINAL: CAR vs. BOS WEST FINAL: STL vs. SJ (BOS wins 4-0) (SJ leads 2-1) A 2019 STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS UPDATE Game 4 – Tonight 8 ET on NBCSN May 17, 2019 Today: Sharks vs Blues – Game 4 – 8pm ET on NBCSN In Game 3, down 2-0 and 3-1 in the 2nd, St. Louis rallied at home, scoring 3 straight goals to take the lead into the 3rd. San Jose forced overtime, however, after Logan Couture scored with 1:01 left in regulation and Erik Karlsson scored 5:23 into the extra session to give the Sharks the victory and series lead. After the game, much of the talk was about Timo Meier’s apparent hand pass in overtime that was not called and resulted in the game-winning goal. • Karlsson (3 goals in reg. season) had his 1st multi-goal playoff game & 1st career playoff OT goal in Game 3 • Joe Thornton (2G-1A) 1st career multi-goal playoff game in Game 3 (176th postseason game) • Couture 14 goals this postseason (leads playoffs) – tied Joe Pavelski’s SJ single postseason record (2016) • STL 3-5 at home this postseason (6-2 on the road) Karlsson on Game 3: “I think we deserved to win this game. At the end of the day I think neither team drew the shortest stick on any of the calls out there so it was a fair game.” STL coach Craig Berube: “Well, it's difficult to lose in overtime and in [the Stanley Cup] Playoffs anytime. We've got to move on and get ready for Game 4. Really, that's all you can do. We played a solid hockey game, but we're on the losing end of it and there's nothing we can do about what happened. We just have to move on." SJ coach Peter DeBoer on his team’s supposed “luck”: “It irks me when you use words like that because this team has played (four) elimination games — not moments, games. The Sharks' Center, An Unlikely Playoff Scoring Machine, Isn't a Particularly Good Skater By REED ALBERGOTTI The hockey headlines this time of year are supposed to be dominated by the sport's biggest names—blazing fast superstars like Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin, or somebody who has a nickname that includes the word "rocket." But the guy everyone is talking about during this NHL postseason is an obscure center who insists he's still learning how to skate. "In a flat-out race from one end of the ice to another, I'm not going to win too many of those," says Joe Pavelski, the center for the San Jose Sharks. As a skater, he says, "I'm not where I need to be yet." From seemingly nowhere, Mr. Pavelski has scored nine goals in just 11 playoff games, second only behind Michael Cammalleri of the Montreal Canadiens. Never mind that he has never scored more than 25 goals in an entire NHL season (his total in each of the past two years). Mr. Pavelski has helped his team reach the conference finals for only the second time in franchise history. Joe Pavelski looks on after the Sharks beat the Colorado Avalanche last month in their first- round series. Even Mr. Pavelski's agent, Dan Plante, is shocked. "Everybody always said he wouldn't go anywhere because he can't skate," said Mr. Plante. "To me, it's just humorous."
