Road

Road access is via the A1 with intersections at Newark (A46) from the South and near Retford (A57) from the North. The city is 40 miles east of Nottingham on the A46 and 40 miles south of the Humber Bridge on the A15. Lincoln is less than an hour’s drive from the M1.

When arriving by road, you will need to follow directions to the following address:

Visitor parking is located by One Campus Way - Building number 8 on the Campus Map. There are limited spaces available so please contact us using the details below if you will be requiring a parking space.

Rail

Lincoln railway station is in the city centre, just a few minutes’ walk from the Brayford Pool campus. Direct trains to London Kings Cross take just under two hours. There are also frequent rail connections to other major cities, including Sheffield, Nottingham, Leicester and Leeds.

When arriving my train, please follow the directions below to reach the University campus:

- Turn left when you exit the train station and walk towards the traffic lights. - Cross the road at the traffic lights on to the high street, you will see Nationwide bank on the corner. Walk up the high street until you reach Lloyds Bank which will be on your left. At this point, turn left and walk towards BHS. - Once you walk past BHS, you will see a set of stairs/ramp that lead to a pedestrian crossing. Cross the road and walk around the apartment block located on the opposite side. You will now see the Brayford Pool in front of you. - Turn left to walk down Brayford Wharf East until you reach the level crossing. At this point, cross the road to the opposite side and you will be able to see a long driveway - this is the East drive. - Walk down the East drive and you will arrive and the Minerva Building - Building number 1 on the Campus map. Air

Lincoln’s central location allows for quick and easy access to a number of airports for domestic, European and International flights. The offers flights around Europe, the east coast of America, Central America and Africa.

Direct trains to London mean it is also convenient to reach Lincoln via one of the London airports and transfer to Kings Cross Station.

If you are arriving at East Midlands airport you will need to take the Skylink from East Midlands to Nottingham Train station, and then a train from Nottingham to Lincoln Central.

Circular Bus Routes

Lincoln has two circular bus routes that can help you get around the city easily:

The Walk & Ride Steep Hill Shuttle runs 6 days a week from 9:10am til 5:22pm, stopping at 13 locations across the city from Newport Arch in the north to St Marks Shopping Centre in the south. Prices start at £1.50 for a single journey.

Lincoln’s open-top sightseeing bus runs from from March to October and tickets cost £10 per person (children go free with a paying adult). Each ticket lasts for two days and includes a circular trip around Lincoln, stopping at 11 locations, with live commentary of the historic city. You can hop-on and hop-off wherever you like.

There is a large taxi rank outside Lincoln which can transport you around the city. Other taxi companies in the city centre include:

Hirebike hirebike stations across Lincoln offer bikes for hire to allow you to cycle the city’s streets to get around. City centre stations include: on the Brayford Waterfront outside the Royal Wiliam IV pub, at Lincoln Central Train Station, on the University of Lincoln campus and at St Marks Shopping Centre.

Restaurants, Bars & Cafés

There are a variety of restaurants, bars and cafes located within walking distance to the University campus. You find more information about these on the Visit Lincoln website.

On Campus Restaurants

We have two on campus resturants which both serve as a bar and cafe:

- The Swan - Building 4 on the Campus Map. Open 10am - 12am

Poppies: Wave at Lincoln Castle

Lincoln Castle will host The Wave and will be the only place in England where it can be seen. The breath-taking sculptures were initially conceived as the key dramatic sculptural elements in the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London in the autumn of 2014.

Magna Carta at Lincoln Castle

The Castle is home to the Lincoln’s own Magna Carta, one of only four original copies dating back to 1215, as well as the Charter of the Forest. Lincoln Castle is the only place where you can see the two documents together in the world, a unique opportunity to see the documents that shaped society as we know it today - more information at lincolncastle.com

Lincoln Cathedral

Once described by Victorian writer John Ruskin as “out and out the most precious piece of architecture in the British Isles and roughly speaking worth any two other cathedral we have”, Lincoln Cathedral is not to be missed. Accommodation during the conference will be located in the Student Village on campus.

If you are arriving in Lincoln on the 5th of July, key collection for your room will be available from the Minerva Building - Building 1 on the Campus Map. For those arriving on the 6th of July, key collection will be available from the Student Village. Please contact Marc Elvidge or Shradha Mishra to get more information on this.

Accommodation is £45/night. This includes the following:

- Room bedding (2 pillow and pillow cases, under-sheet, duvet and duvet cover) - Towels (1 bath & 1 hand) - Daily cleaning (towels exchanged) - Complementary toiletries pack on arrival - Daily re-fill of complementary beverage packs

If you have any special requirements, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can accommodate these.
