In the first days of a lengthy regional tour, the king has appeared with top-ranking officials in Indonesia and Malaysia in pictures and clips that have been shared online millions of times. Indonesian President Joko Widodo shared on Facebook a video of himself dining with the king at the presidential palace in Bogor, near the capital Jakarta. In the video, both men comment on the vis- it, the first to Indonesia by a Saudi king in nearly five decades, and give viewers a rare peek into a state event. As Widodo holds what appears to be a phone camera, the king is seen dining before com- menting in Arabic on his 12-day visit to Indonesia, the longest leg of his month-long tour of Asia. “I’m very happy to be here in Indonesia and with the Indonesian people,” King Salman says to the camera, as an interpreter sitting behind him translates into Bahasa Indonesia. The king was also pho- tographed posing for a selfie with former president Megawati Sukarnoputri and her daughter Puan Maharani, who is a member of Widodo’s cabinet.

  • Pellegrini Key to MAN City REVENGE Mission
SPORTS SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2014 FRENCH LEAGUE PREVIEW Runaway PSG looking to avoid complacency PARIS: Fresh from beating their biggest rivals last weekend, Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain are determined to avoid complacency when they travel to face Bastia today. Laurent Blanc’s league leaders eased to a 2-0 victory against Marseille in the Classique at the Parc des Princes in their last outing to move onto 64 points-a record tally at this stage of the season-and open up a gap of eight points to nearest rivals Monaco. Apparently too strong for their domestic opponents, the club from the capital could be forgiven for focusing all of their attention on the Champions League, in which they defend a 4-0 lead against Bayer Leverkusen going into the second leg of their last-16 tie next Wednesday. Nevertheless, coming into the trip to Corsica to face a Bastia side who are ninth in the table but have won just one of their last five Ligue 1 outings, Blanc has refused to admit that a second consecutive title is secure. “It’s not up to me to LONDON: Manchester City’s Chilean manager Manuel Pellegrini (right) applauds after winning the League Cup final confirm or deny that. I think it’s better to be in our situation football match between Manchester City and Sunderland at Wembley Stadium in London.— AFP than that of our pursuers,” said the 48-year-old. “There are still a lot of points to be taken. By winning 2-0 at Wigan Athletic FC on 11 May United ensured they finished two points clear of Avram Grant's team, who began the day level on points but were held 1-1 at home by Bolton Wanderers FC. • A UEFA Champions League triumph this year, 50 years after the loss of eight of manager Sir Matt Busby's 'Babes' in the 1958 Munich air crash, would carry a particular emotional resonance for United, who were previously continental champions in 1968 and 1999. • Chelsea, by contrast, will hope the size of the prize at stake will inspire them to rise above their domestic disappointment and claim their first European Cup in what is their first final. If Moscow appears perhaps the perfect venue for the club's Russian owner Roman Abramovich, Chelsea supporters may find another positive omen in the date of the final: it was on 21 May 1971 that the London side won their first European trophy, beating Real Madrid CF to claim the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.

The Dean Academy, a secondary London school in southwest England’s Glouces- tershire, closed October 23 to get rid of the false widow spiders. The spiders are commonly mistaken for their relative, the black widow spider, whose bite can be fatal. The school said no one has been bitten by the spider but local health authorities have advised it to close for the day to deal with the infestation. Experts say the Steodata nobilis, a species of the false widow, are becom- ing more common in the UK and are the most dangerous of the 12 species of biting spiders known in Britain. But they stress that spider bites are rare in Britain, and in most cases the symptoms are mild.
