CLEAN WATER CHANGES EVERYTHING Actress Patricia Heaton Headlines Event Providing Clean Wells, New Lives for Women and Girls in Africa

(SCOTTSDALE, AZ) – Nine years ago, world-renowned golfer Betsy King took a trip to Africa that forever changed her life. She returned determined to radically improve the lives of women and children she saw there, suffering from disease, malnutrition, poor sanitation and nearly indescribable poverty. King created Golf Fore Africa to advance the mission to provide clean water that gives life rather than takes it. In its short existence, Golf Fore Africa has funded over 150 new wells in Africa, providing safe water to 45,000 people and works in close affiliation with World Vision, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of the world’s children.

This year, actress Patricia Heaton will keynote Golf Fore Africa’s Strong Women Strong World annual fundraising event on Wednesday, November 9, 2016, at the Four Seasons Scottsdale. Heaton, who is best known for her Emmy® Award winning role as Debra Barone on the TV hit , currently stars in ABC’s and hosts her own popular cooking program, Patricia Heaton Parties, on the . This summer, Heaton was named World Vision’s first Celebrity Ambassador, continuing her long association with the Christian humanitarian organization.

Towela Mzumara, World Vision Zambia Program Manager, will give a personal report on how Golf Fore Africa is changing lives of women, children and their communities in Zambia.

Golf Fore Africa’s founder Betsy King said, “It’s hard to overstate how critically important this work is. There are 663 million people in the world who live without clean water. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide or twice the population of the United States.” King added, “Women and girls are responsible for 72% of the water collected in sub-Saharan Africa. When a community gets water, women and girls’ lives start. They start businesses, improve their homes, and take charge of their own futures.”

Men and women who have attended Strong Women, Strong World events report they emerge inspired and empowered by a new understanding that they can change the world by supporting African women and creating an environment in which they are respected, valued and equipped to solve the challenges that exist in their own communities.
