IMPROVEMENT............................................................. 144 1.0 USING THE RESULTS AND OVERVIEW OF FINDINGS 1.1 A note on how to use results The focus of this report is to describe the current state of designated supportive living (DSL) from the perspective of the resident’s family member. The results for each DSL site are compared amongst site peers within each AHS Zone, in addition to the previous survey iteration. Ultimately, these results are intended to guide reflection on performance and assist in identifying quality improvement opportunities. The key measures used to present the survey results include four Dimensions of Care , the Food Rating Scale, the Overall Care Rating (a measure of family members’ overall opinion of the site), and the Propensity to Recommend. The Dimensions of Care each represent a set of questions that share a similar theme; they influence the Overall Care Rating and can be used to identify areas of success and opportunities for improvement at DSL sites across Alberta. Other factors can contribute to family members’ experience at a site. Family experience alone should not be used to assess site performance in the absence of other information, such as site demographics (i.e., average age of residents and percentage male/female), level-of-need of the resident population, and other quality measures such as those derived from the interRAITM Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI), complaints and concerns, accreditation results, and compliance with Continuing Care Health Service Standards (CCHSS). One option for publicly available information is the HQCA’s FOCUS on Healthcare website. It was expanded to include designated supportive living in 2019. It features 28 interactive charts that present administrative data as well as patient experience survey data about designated supportive living. Users can compare information about designated supportive living sites or zones, and look at data presented over time. https://focus.hqca.ca/designated-supportive-living/ This report provides a single perspective of several possible interpretations of these findings. DSL owners, operators, and other stakeholders may choose to examine and interpret the findings differently. While being mindful of the limitations of the data, there are a number of ways to interpret and use the results. It is important to note that while significance testing can identify where there has been a mathematical change, this does not necessarily indicate a change in performance especially when comparing two survey cycles. In addition, results that did not show any statistically significant change or difference may still be important. 1.2 2019 Site results at a glance Among sites that did Table 1 below provides a summary of 2019 site-level results.     Alberta Health, Continuing Care Branch For General Reference Purposes Only March 31, 2016 List of Publicly Funded Designated Supportive Living Accommodations and Long-Term Care Facilities This document is a list of publicly funded designated supportive living (DSL) accommodations and long-term care (LTC) facilities in Alberta as of March 31, 2016. The list is broken down by: Alberta Health Services (AHS) Zone (i.e., South, Calgary, Central, Edmonton and North); Location (Alphabetically); Facility Name, which is hyperlinked to the Accommodation Standards Licensing and Public Reporting Website; Facility Address, including phone number; Operator Name; Operator Type (i.e., AHS, Private or Voluntary); Level of DSL accommodation (DSL 3, DSL 4 or DSL 4-D); and, Type of LTC Facility (Auxiliary Hospital or Nursing Home). DSL Accommodations In DSL accommodations, a higher level of care is provided than what is provided in other supportive living settings. DSL settings have staff on-site to provide personal care and health support services 24 hours a day. These staff may include Health Care Aides, Licensed Practical Nurses, on-call Registered Nurses and staff providing therapeutic services, such as Physical and Occupational Therapists. The levels of DSL accommodations include (in order of lowest to higher care need provided): DSL 3: This community-based living option includes 24-hour on-site (scheduled and unscheduled) personal care and support services which are provided by Health Care Aides. They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our communities and to our growth as a province. Today’s seniors are healthier, living longer and more active than ever before in our history. As this new generation of seniors approaches retirement, British Columbia is striving to ensure they receive the care they deserve. Health authorities are working to provide better care and more options for today and for the future. British Columbia’s strategy involves ensuring seniors receive the right care in the most appropriate setting. Based on extensive research and consultation, health authorities are redesigning health care services to be more senior friendly, to provide more options for independent seniors and to ensure residential care is available if and when seniors need it. When this government took office in 2001, British Columbia’s seniors’ care system was outdated and out of step with what today’s seniors need and want. Since that time, the province has made significant strides. • Wait times for residential care facilities have been reduced to an average of 60 to 90 days, compared to up to a year (and two years in some areas) in past. • Seniors now have more options, in newer facilities that meet modern care standards. Most of all, they are obtaining more timely, appropriate care that supports their independence. • As of June 2005, 4,142 new and replacement residential care beds, assisted living units and supportive housing units have been developed to upgrade outdated care facilities and create new beds and units where needed.

It has been shown that most members who come back into the Eagles are usually more involved than before. Due to the rules of the Gaming Commission, I had to change my charity from Alzheimer’s Research to buying much needed equipment for the Alzheimer’s Unit at the Village by the Station in Penticton. This place is operated by a non-profit organization (The Good Samaritan Society) who take in patients from all over the Province.
