Compliance and Enforcement Officer – Field Coordinator Salary: $27.33 - $31.07 hourly Auxiliary Opportunity - March 2017 to Fall 2017

The Province of British Columbia is entering the third year of its Invasive Mussel Defence Program, with a particular focus on boater education and inspection along the eastern and southern entry points into the Province.

This position forms part of BC’s Invasive Mussel Defence Program, with the aim to intercept watercraft carrying invasive zebra and quagga mussels from entering the province. A component of the job will be to conduct mandatory roadside boat inspections and to liaise with, survey, and deliver outreach materials to the public. Furthermore general public education and outreach will be part of the position at the stations, public events, and as such being comfortable approaching strangers is a part of the position. A central component of this position will be to coordinate day to day operations, set work schedules and travel to watercraft inspection stations across the Province throughout the season.

Another key component will be to deliver training on mussel inspections and how to ‘Clean, Drain, and Dry’ watercrafts to other parts of government and stakeholders. The position will be a BC Ministry of Environment Auxiliary position and will have Auxiliary Conservation Officer status for specific regulations applying to aquatic invasive species enforcement, and will work closely with regular Conservation Officers. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to get work experience in a compliance and enforcement program that is delivered in close collaboration with BC’s Conservation Officer Service (COS). The successful applicant will receive several days training by the COS in relevant Compliance and enforcement (C&E) techniques, and also interact with other provincial and federal enforcement agencies in their area.

The successful applicant must attend training March 6-17 in the Lower Mainland. For applicants outside the Lower Mainland, but within the province of BC, the ministry will be offering support for travel and accommodations to attend the training. The position will start on Monday March 6th 2016.

Qualifications for this role include:  Diploma, certification or equivalent in a related discipline such as administrative law, investigation and enforcement, or criminology, or natural resources. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience  Experience in the interpretation and application of legislation.  Valid B.C. class 5 driver’s licence.
