Ruloff De Kype [5] was born in 1510 in Alencon, Bretagne, France. General Notes: Ruloff De Kype was a warm adherent of the Guises, and took a prominent part in the Civil War between the Catholics and the Protestants. On the triumph of the Protestants, which occurred soon after the general massacre of the inhabitants of Vassey in Champagne, in 1562, his Chateau was burned and he fled from his home at Alancon in Bretagne to Holland with his three sons, where they lived for several years under an assumed name. In 1569, with his son Henri, he returned to France, joined the army of the Duke of Anjou, and on the 13th of March 1569 fell in the battle fought on the banks of La Charante, near Jarnac. By the care of his son, Jean Baptiste, who was a priest, he was buried in a small Church near Jarnac. The Church and grave marker were destroyed during the French Revolution. Ancestry of George W. Bush (b. 1946) Page 1 of 150 Ancestry of George W. Bush compiled by William Addams Reitwiesner The following material on the immediate ancestry of George W. Bush was initially compiled from two sources: The ancestry of his father, President George Bush, as printed in Gary Boyd Roberts, Ancestors of American Presidents, First Authoritative Edition [Santa Clarita, Cal.: Boyer, 1995], pp. 121-130. The ancestry of his mother, Barbara Bush, based on the unpublished work of Michael E. Pollock, [email protected]. The contribution of the undersigned consists mostly in collating and renumbering the material cited above, adding considerable information from the decennial censuses and elsewhere, and HTML-izing the results. The relationships to other persons (see the NOTES section below) are intended to be illustrative rather than exhaustive, and are taken mostly from Mr. Roberts' Notable Kin and Ancestors of American Presidents books, with extensions, where appropriate, from John Young's American Reference Genealogy and from my own, generally unpublished, research. • An Index by Title to Articles in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record 1870–2015 (Volumes 1–146)
An Index by Title to Articles in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record 1870–2015 (Volumes 1–146) The following index is organized alphabetically by title and comprises every article published in The Record from 1870–2015, volumes 1–146. It is especially useful for locating articles that have been published in multiple installments. Additions and corrections are listed alongside the original articles. Please note that if a title begins with the word “A” it is alphabetized by the letter “A;” likewise, titles that begin with “The” are alphabetized by “T.” Titles that begin with a numeral precede alphabetical titles and are listed in numerical order; however, numbers spelled as words are alphabetized as words. Omitted from this index are regular features—such as accession lists, book reviews, necrologies, Society proceedings, etc.— that were not uniquely titled in the Table of Contents. Traditionally, a Necrology of members has appeared annually in April, issue number one, and additions and corrections have appeared annually in October, issue number four. • Chapter 1. Beginnings, 1664–1691
Chapter 1. Beginnings, 1664–1691 ’Tis not with us as in our Fatherland, or as in Kingdoms and Re- publics which are established and settled by long and well expe- rienced laws and fundamentals, best agreeing with the condition of the people. But in our little body, made up of divers members, namely, folks of different nations, many things occur in the laying of a foundation for which there are no rules nor examples.1 The legal history of the British colony of New York may be said to have begun on August 26 1664, when Colonel Richard Nicolls anchored his little flotilla in Gravesend Bay and demanded from Peter Stuyvesant the surrender of New Amsterdam. Nicolls’ bloodless conquest confirmed the grant made by Charles II; James Stuart, Duke of York, could now attempt to dictate the terms of occu- pation and government in the rich domain to be called New York. In a larger sense, however, the legal history of New York began fifty years before. Many of the external determinants of the legal order, including the geographic, strategic, and economic constraints on occupation of the territory, were already expressed in the organization of the Dutch colony of New Nether- land. In conquering a province with an existing administrative system, more- over, the agents of the new proprietor had not the luxury of unrestrained cre- ation; the ways, means, and expectations of the population needed to be taken into account, if only to prevent the kind of social unrest that would require prohibitively expensive measures to garrison the Duke’s new possession.

She was born 1714 in Stone Arabia, Montgomery County, New York, and died Bef. 1807 in St. Johnsville, Montgomery County New York. Notes for JOHANGUERGH KLOCK: Old George was born in 1714 and died in 1789 or 1790 Also known Johan Guergh ( Old George ) Notes from the SOK Genealogy: George Klock Sr, lived near the banks of Crum Creek on the flats of the Mohawk on the north side of the river and but a short distance away from the upper Canajoharie Castle of the Mohawk, which was then located where the present Indian Castle now is. The activities of this man would fill a volumn of interesting reading. Little has been said of him but what was defamatory. Probably no man in the Mohawk valley achieved greater notoriety that he in his quarrel with his arch enemy Sir William Johnson, when the vituperations of the latter was heaped upon him when that gentleman sought to wrest the land from him and acquire it for himself. George Klock has left no written pages to tell his side of the story but in the "Sir William Johnson Papers", and Colonial Documents, one can find the reason and result of this battle for land between the two.

  • ROBERT LIVINGSTON (1654 - 1725) the 20Th Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans, Vol.6, P.458
ROBERT LIVINGSTON (1654 - 1725) The 20th Century Biographical Dictionary of Notable Americans, Vol.6, p.458 Robert Livingston, the first lord of the manor, was born at Ancrum, Roxburghshire, Scotland, Dec. 13, 1654; son of Dr. John Livingston (1608-1672), a Presbyterian minister, who was banished from Scotland in 1663, on account of his nonconformist views, and went to Holland soon after the restoration of Charles II. Robert accompanied his father in his flight to Rotterdam, and immigrated to America in 1673, and after spending part of a year in Charlestown, Massachusetts Bay colony, removed to Albany, N.Y. In Albany, Robert was secretary of the commissaries who superintended the affairs of Albany, Schenectady, and the parts adjacent, 1675-86. He was married in 1683 to Alida, daughter of Philip Pietersen Schuyler, and widow of Nicholas Van Rensselaer. In 1686 he received from Governor Thomas Dougan a grant of land comprising large parts of what was subsequently set off as Dutchess county, and the grant was confirmed by royal charter from George I., who erected the manor and lordship of Livingston. Robert Livingston was appointed to proceed to New York with his brother-in-law, Peter Schuyler, to obtain a charter for the manor from Governor Dougan, under which charter he was town clerk, 1686-1721. In 1689 he attached himself to the anti-Leisler faction. He was secretary of the convention held at Albany, Oct. 25, 1689, which, while it acknowledged the sovereignty of William and Mary, opposed Leisler's proceedings. When Richard Petty, sheriff of Albany, reported to Leisler that Livingston favored the Prince of Orange, Leisler ordered Livingston's arrest, and the latter retired to one of the neighboring provinces until the arrival of Sloughter, in March, 1691.
