  • Muscat Escape “Transfer Through Muscat to Shangri La..”
OMAN Muscat Escape “Transfer through Muscat to Shangri La..” When you arrive into Muscat Airport, head through immigration, baggage collection and Customs and proceed to the arrivals hall where you will be met by your driver. You are privately chauffeured to the Shangri La Bar Al jissah resort in Muscat. You will be collected on your return back to Muscat Airport up to 3 hours prior to your departure flight. Jumeirah Mosque “Home of the Founding Father – Abu Dhabi City Tour” 09:00 – 16:00 Tour - From Muscat we drive towards Quariyat and then along the coast towards Sur Our first stop is at the Bimmah sinkhole, here you can sit with your feet in the water and have the little fish eat away at all those nasty bits. Not for the Ticklish! We have time to swim and jump of the rocks on the other side Further along the coast just before the quaint village of Tiwi is Wadi Shab. This is still a very beautiful Wadi but it was devastated when a cyclone called Gonu hit in 2007 and its beauty was not enhanced by the construction of a road bridge across the entrance. It is about an hour’s walk to the Swimming Pools but be sure to have some decent trekking shoes in fact two pairs of shoes are advisable one for trekking and the other for swimming and a bit of rock climbing. Bring some water (particularly in summer) and do not bring any valuables unless you have a waterproof case 17:00 – 19:00 Sunset Dhow Cruise - leave the Marina Bandar al Rowdha and cruise along the coast taking in the views of Muscat Harbour the sultan’s Palace and the Forts of Al Jalali and Al Mirani.

I would like also to thank the members of my thesis committee, Dr Eric Verdeil and Professor Bernard Declève, for guiding me during these last four years. Thank you for taking so much interest in my research work, for your encouragement and valuable comments, and thank you as well for all the travel you undertook for those committee meetings. This research owes a lot to Université de Liège, and the Non-Fria grant that I was very lucky to have. Without this funding, this research work, and my trips to UAE, would not have been possible. • However the Ugly Face of the So Called "Dubai Model" Which Was Based Upon Debt and Speculation, Was Hiding Somewhere in the Breakneck Boom
What is Dubai Crisis? y The Dubai Debt Crisis 2009 has been called by economists a consequence of real estate bubble burst when on November 26, 2009 vaDubai proposed to delay repayment of its debt which includes delay in the payment of $ 59 Billion debt on Dubai World, the investment vehicle for the emirates for 6 months. Dubai's Economy: y Dubai has one of the most unique and unusual economies in the world. Dubai has numerous free zones including Jebel Ali free zone, Dubai Maritime City, Dubai Internet City, and Dubai Media City. y Contrary to the general assumption that Dubai's economy is totally driven by oil and gas,It is a fact that oil sector only comprises less than 6% of the economy of Dubai. y In fact, Dubai's portion of natural gas revenues in the United Arab Emirates is only about 2%. Dubai's oil production is estimated to be about 240,000 barrels per day. y It is true that Dubai's economy was built on the back of Oil Money but Dubai's oil reserves have diminished significantly and are expected to be exhausted in 20 years. y The other largest contributing sectors of Dubai economy are Real estate and construction (22.6%), trade (16%), (15%) and financial services (11%) (all are 2007 figures). Diversifying to Real Estate: y In 2000, Dubai Financial Market (DFM) was established. It was established as a secondary market for trading securities and bonds, both local and foreign. During that time the Government decided to diversify Dubai's economy from a trade-based, but oil-reliant, economy to one that is service and tourism-oriented has made real estate more valuable.

  • Beirut and Beyond an Unparalleled Insight
MARCH, 2010 Beirut and Beyond An Unparalleled Insight ELIE MILKY, Associate HALA MATAR CHOUFANY, Managing Director HVS – DUBAI Dubai Silicon Oasis Headquarter Building, 4th Floor PO Box 341041 Dubai, United Arab Emirates Tel: +971 4‐5015‐586 Fax: +971 4‐5015‐77 HVS – Dubai Beirut and Beyond 2 Beirut and Beyond – An Unparalleled Insight The story of the Lebanese economy in 2009 was different from that of the main economies in the region and elsewhere. Helped by continued stability, real estate activity flourished, and the banking sector and tourism witnessed record figures. The number of tourist arrivals was almost 1.9 million (beating the record of 1.4 million set in 1974). The number of airport passenger movements in Beirut was almost 5 million. Existing hotels reaped the benefits and showed remarkable levels of performance as a consequence. Hotels still in the pipeline doubled their efforts to open for business, and opportunities for more hotels are being actively pursued. Yet, the picture may not be as rosy as it seems. Consumer spending dwindled in 2009 on the previous year, and ongoing political tension – albeit ‘cold’ – along the southern border of Lebanon continues to be a point of concern. At the turn of an exciting new decade, investors, owners, developers, lenders and operators are coming together as never before, having an increased appetite for a slice of what 2010 (and ensuing years) has to offer; namely, still greater economic prosperity. As experts in hotel consulting for 30 years, we take a closer look at the Lebanese hotel market both now and in the future and investigate other sectors such as investment, real estate and lending that play a significant role in improving tourism to the country.
