For my Mitzvah Project, I went to Rose Tree Place, a retirement home in Media. I played piano for them and called numbers for bingo. This experience showed me how much one action can make someone's day so much better. I enjoyed going to Rose Tree Place and hope to continue volunteering.

Ava Johanna (Chava Leah) Bloom, daughter of Elizabeth & Andrew Bloom, will become a Bat Mitzvah on Saturday, October 7th. Joining her on this special day will be her grandparents Linda Wood, Nancy & Peter Wood, and Eleanor & Robert Bloom from Chicago, Illinois, along with friends and family.

Ava is an 8th grade student at Welsh Valley Middle School and describes her interests: I am a travel soccer player with Lower Merion Soccer Club. I also play lacrosse for Welsh Valley. I love to waterski in Vermont and snow ski wherever I can, but my favorite place to ski is in Utah. I have won lots of honor and awards on all the fields but love playing with my team the most.

I have been volunteering for the past 3 or 4 years for "Our Closet." We collect, sort and give clothes to people desperately in need. I love to work at the pop- up shops and help the customers shop for their clothes and feel good about themselves. This spring, I worked at the Mother's Day event. That pop-up shop took place at Jewish Family Services and all of our customers got to choose 2 pieces of new jewelry by Marlyn Schiff and 1 gently used handbag. It was great to help everyone pick out something so special. I love working for Our Closet and plan to continue with Jill and her crew.

“Who is wise? Those who learn from everyone.” - Pirke Avot 4:1

We are delighted to announce that Temple Sholom has been selected to participate in the nationally prestigious BetterTogetherTM Program. BetterTogetherTM is a two-year program designed to encourage teem leadership and relevant and meaningful interaction between teens and senior citizens.

Temple Sholom’s BetterTogetherTM Program will be known as B’Yachad … an Intergenerational Leadership Experience. This synagogue-based, intergenerational experience will bring together teens and adult seniors. Together, they will engage in text study and hands-on, experiential learning through the lens of social justice. Participants of B’Yachad will come together to embrace the past and the present to create a living vision of a better world. Participants of B’Yachad will include 11 of Temple Sholom’s 9th – 11th grade teens along with a matching number of Temple Sholom’s adult senior group – the Hilltoppers.

Rabbi Rigler and Lori Green will be actively engaged with leadership and facilitation of B’Yachad along with our liaison/facilitator, Rabbi Ariel Tarish.

This prestigious program will:

 Enable teens to understand what it means to age while helping adult seniors come to understand what it means to be a teen in today’s world.

 Encourage students and seniors to create intergenerational Jewish relationships.

 Help teens to foster their own Jewish identities while connecting them with living history.

 Share oral narratives and create new narratives while creating an environment that brings the two generations together with honor and respect.

 Strengthen intergenerational ties where participants can learn together, learn from one another, and embrace each other’s unique gifts.
