CHAPELIZOD, a village partly in Palmerstown parish, Uppercross barony, but chiefly in the parish of the same name, Castleknoek barony, Dublin county, three miles W. from the General Post Office, Dublin, comprising an area of 63 acres. Population, 1,280, inhabiting 255 houses. It is partly situate on the river Liffey, on the high road to Galway, and near to the Great Southern and Western line of Railway. It is said to derive its name from La belle Izod, daughter of King Aenpus. King William III. spent several days in it; and prior to the erection of the Viceregal lodge, it was the country residence of the Viceroy. Its buildings are, a Church, with an ivied tower, a Roman Catholic Church, a Dispensary, a National School, and Metropolitan Police Station. CLONDALKIN. 3.n inland pari^i and village, partly in Newcastle, but chiefly in Uppercross barony, Dublin county,4i5 miles S. VY. from Dublin, comprising an area of 4,777 acres, of which 44- are in the village. Population. 2,430"; of village, 474. inhabiting 89 houses, "it is situated near the ninth lock of the Grand Canal, and close to the line of the Great Southern and Western Railway, of which it is the first station from Dublin. It was ancient > named Cluain-Dolcan, and by the Danes Dun-awley. The village consists chiefly of one irregular street, of snian but neatly built houses and cottages. The only public buildings are the Parish Church, a small plain modern building, and a neat Roman Catholic Church. It has Almshouses for destitute widows, a Dorcas Institution, Lying-in Hospital, and Dispensary, a Parochial and two National Schools, and a Constabulary Police Station, The ancient round tower is the nearest structure of the kind to the metropolis, and is in good preservation, stand? 100 feet high, and is 15 feet in diameter, covered with a conical roof of sfeooe. CLONSKEAGH. f.ONSKEAGH, a village in the parish of St. Mary's, Donnybrook, barony and county of Dublin, three miles S. from e General Post Office, Dublin, comprising an area of 68 acres. There is a male and female National school. filiation, 310, inhabiting 54 houses. It is situated on the river Dodder, and on the road to Emihskerry. • contains two hammer-smith iron works. The neighbourhood is studded with gentlemen's seats and neat alias. Vergemount is a pretty range of houses close to the village. Roebuck, a district half a mile further on, covered with elegant mansions and demesnes, the principal of which is the castle of that name, the seat of • P. Westby, esq. Milliown is less than half a mile to the right of Clonskeagh, in the parish of Milltown, Upercross barony, and comprises an area of 185 acres. Population 863, inhabiting 132 houses. The ( urch of St. Philip, -which has recently been erected, is situate at Temple-road, Rathmines, adjoining the miltown railway station. There is a small Roman Catholic Church.
