    PRESS RELEASE 03 July 2019 St Fagans winner of £100,000 Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019 St Fagans National Museum of History, near Cardiff, was announced as Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019 this evening (3 July 2019), the most important museum prize in the world. David Anderson, Director General of National Museum Wales, was presented with the £100,000 prize by artist Jeremy Deller at a ceremony in the spectacular setting of the Science Museum, London. St Fagans is the first Welsh winner of Art Fund Museum of the Year and Wales’ most visited heritage attraction. The winner was chosen from five finalists: HMS Caroline (Belfast), Nottingham Contemporary, Pitt Rivers Museum (Oxford), St. Fagans National Museum of History (Cardiff) and V&A Dundee. Each of the other finalist museums receives a £10,000 prize in recognition of their achievements.     PRESS RELEASE 5 December 2019 SEARCH FOR ART FUND MUSEUM OF THE YEAR 2020 BEGINS TODAY Today, Thursday 5 December, Art Fund director Stephen Deuchar launches the search for Art Fund Museum of the Year 2020. The biggest museum prize in the world – with a total prize fund of £140,000 – Art Fund Museum of the Year champions UK museums on a national stage, rewards innovative and transformative work and inspires more people to go and visit them. The application deadline is 13 February 2020 and the shortlist of five museums will be announced in late April 2020. The winner of Art Fund Museum of the Year 2020 will be announced at an award ceremony in London in early July 2020. The winning museum will receive £100,000. Each other finalist will receive £10,000. The competition has become an important vehicle for promoting the achievements of UK museums and raising their public profile nationally and internationally. Previously known as the Prize for Museums and Galleries, it was re-launched as Art Fund Museum of the Year in 2013 by Stephen Deuchar, who has chaired and selected the judging panel since then. He steps down from his role as Director of Art Fund on 31 March 2020. The 2020 Museum of the Year chair will be Art Fund trustee Dame Liz Forgan. It was also a year of headliner exhibitions and broken records with the trio of loans – Dippy On Tour, Tim Peake’s Space Capsule and Leonardo 500 – contributing to our highest ever visitor numbers of 905,102 visitors, which will serve us well into the future in terms of new visitors returning. More critical than the record-breaking visitor performance, however, is the organisation’s progress along its journey of transformational change.

[email protected] / 020 7225 4888 Exeter’s ‘magical’ Royal Albert Memorial Museum crowned Museum of the Year, winning £100,000 Art Fund Prize Following a six month nationwide search, and with tough competition from a shortlist consisting of three other widely‐praised and much‐loved museums, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum has this evening been named as the winner of the 2012 Art Fund Prize for Museums and Galleries The museum reopened to the public on 15 December 2011 following a £24 million transformation. Founded in 1868 and established in memory of Queen Victoria’s husband, the museum’s founding principles were based on the cultural ideals of the Prince Regent, who aimed to bring art and science, design and technology together into one universal vision. Press release... rele In the course of its 144‐year history the museum has pursued these values by amassing over a million objects in a wide array of fields; from gemstones and taxidermy to medieval coins and modern art. The new museum offers a dramatically reinterpreted display of the museum’s collection, one which both reveals a range stories about the local region and the wider world, and the history and character of this unique museum itself.
