Present progress of develoent. 6. Spirit of cooperation and help given to Agent. 7. Present Economic Situation. 8. Requests for work, which could not be met on account of time and mileage. 9. Increased home gardens and the need ot caring for this surplus. 10. Suggestions from state Agent. 11. Definite days for office work. 12. Bertha Vir.mond, Cochise County. Arizona, 1937. - 3 - HO\(JNAXERS CLUBS History - See 1935 and 1936 reports. The Homemakers groups of this county have been carrying the outline as suggested by the State Home Demonstration Agent tor the past three years. Additional group. have used these outlines tor miscellaneous work. However, the Stewart, SUlphur Spr1ngs, Double Adobe and Whitewater groups have completed three years requirements. These outlines have baen used as the basis tor each meeting. e one criticism bas been that the Agent has had to do ost ot the work. However, in each group each woman has assisted and in sane eases they have given demonstra tions. Bach year at the annual birthday party, which is really the achievement day of the stewart Homemakers, Miss Frances L. Brown has been present and has listened to a review of the years work. The Homemakers groups ot Stewart and Double Adobe have attended the County Far.m Bureau picnic far the past three years. At such meetings there has been much enjoyment in comparing notes on what various clubs are doing and in free comparison as to what can be done to mae their organizations better. During the pest year the Stewart Homemakers have taken over ODe room at the Stewart School and have established a Club House. They have built two tables, each twelve feet in length, and have started the necessary equipment to serve their own community dinners, parties, ete. During the year the Homemakers had a joint picnic with the H Bertha Virmond, Cochise Oounty, Arizona. 1937. -4- ealth Club at Stewart. This is the first time that the Homemakers have Joined with the 4wH Clubs and an "enjoyable day was the result. The Club presented a model business meeting for the occasion, providing the music and program. '!he SUlphur Springs Homemakers have completed six of the required third year demonstrations and have had ten meetings during the year. They have maintataed their club room but have had no new equipment. They have taken care of the sick, remembering each club member who bas been Sick with letters, flowers and baskets or food. They presented the agent with a beautiful brief case during the past year. They voted fund. to send the outstanding girl in their community to the 4-H Round-Up. They have prepared a Christmas box tor the Children's Home. Double Adobe Homemakers have spent much of the past year on activities within their own community. Each month a mamber of the Homemakers group or a commdttee of several members has served a community dinner to the local Farm Bureau organization. These have been quite elaborate affairs. Their club room has been decorated and dinners have been beautifully served and a program furnished for the evening. In addition to the equipment reported last year these women have stained and varnished their six tables, have bought dishes and silver· sufficient to serve Sixty people. They have just completed paying for three dozen steel chairs which will add materially to the Bertha VirmoM, Cochise County, Arizona. 1937. - 5 - !._omtort ot the hr10U8 groups. '!he Homemakers have added material- 11 in the 4-H Club Work that has been carried on in the Double Adobedletrict. They have chaperoned the youngsters on each occasion and have cooperated in everr way possible in making the Social Progress Club in this community outstanding in the state. The Whi tews ter Homemakers, known as the Valley Woman's Club, has been untortunate in not having a Club Room ot their own. They have had to meet· in each others homes but at the same time they have been able to carryon a worthwhile years work. They have campleted/nine ot the outline! demonstrations. It is true that the agent has had to help with the demonstrations but the women have gained much contidence and have affected a good organization. The agent devoted ten days to work in four communities. She had five meetings with an attendance ot 140. Bertha Virmond, Cochise County, Arizona. 1937. - 6 - amnTION FOOD PREPARATION Only four days during the year were spent with tood prepara t1on. Four demonstrations were given in two communi ties with holiday menus as a subject with an attendance or 58. A radio te.lk was prepared OD Cranberry Jelly in connection with menus for the winter season. st ot the work in tood preparation has been carried on through office calls and individual conta.cts. 4--H Baking Clubs. Coehise County, Arizona. 1937. - 7 - N.U'lRI TI ON 1'OOD PRESERV.!TI ON History - See 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936 reports. Food preservation has been an important part of Home Demonstration Work tor the past eight years. During this time demonstrations have been given to practically eTery communi ty in the eounty. The agent feels tht most of the rural women are able to take care ot their canning problems quite efficiently. However, from time to time the agent is still called on to visit small groups, especially new comers in various communities. We have tried to do this whenever the occasion arises and have found that working wi th small groups in their own kitchen has been quite worthwhile. Where 8 series or demonstrations have been given the agent likes to give' a demonstration on the use of the pressure cooker. in the canning or non-acid vegetables and meats in both tin cans and glass jars. The canning ot fruit has been lim!ted to exhibit canning. The competition in exhibit canning 1a thi8 county 1s still interesting.
