In the process ofdetermining content, a reviewof relevant literature was male, and atheoretical framework wasdeveloped which consisted of an integrationof Leavell and Clark'slevels of prevention approach to health care,and Maslow's hierarchy ofneeds personality theory. Thistheoretical combination resultedin 25 categories, each labeledwith a level of preventionand basic human need. Within each category,competencies needed by a nursein occupational health care wereidentified, and correspondingacademic content was identifiedand delineated intoeducational levels (baccalaureate, graduate, andinservice). The theoreticalframework nursing was then utilizedto assess the contentof one baccalaureate program. Data werecollected by observing classes over a3-year period, and a content analysis wasconducted. Findings revealedth t the theoretical frameworkprovides a method forstructuring the curriculum desired and thatthe methodology can beapplied to all aspects of the nursingcurriculum. In addition tocontent analysis items for an achievementtest were developedand a standardization process wasstarted.
