CYTÛN POLICY BULLETIN AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2021 Churches called to act 90 days before international climate conference With only 90 days to go until COP26 - the critical international climate negotiations which the UK government will host and chair in Glasgow in November - a broad coalition of Christian denominations and charities is calling on all churches to hold a local Climate Sunday and commit to effective action themselves, before talks begin. So far, more than 1,700 churches across Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland are taking part and hundreds more are planning to do so. This widespread take up of the initiative across diverse church traditions indicates a growing commitment by churches to act on climate change, and to demand that governments act too. The Climate Sunday Initiative wants to see the UK and Welsh Governments strengthen domestic policies before the international conference, to get the UK back on track with its own emissions targets. It is also calling on the UK Government, in its role as chair of COP26, to seek faster and deeper global emissions cuts and the delivery of long-promised finance to help poorer countries adapt to the climate disruption which they are already experiencing. The Climate Sunday initiative is the broadest-based church response to the climate crisis in the UK in the run-up to COP26. Participating churches are asked to do three things: • Arrange to hold a climate-focused service to explore the science and theology around addressing human-caused climate disruption and register your service by Sept 5th; • commit to taking ongoing practical action themselves.

Darren Millar AM was unanimously re-elected as Chair, having been nominated by Suzy Davies MS and seconded by Jenny Rathbone MS b. No Vice-Chair was elected as this role had been held for many years by Mohammed Asghar, who passed away recently c. Jim Stewart was unanimously re-elected as Secretary, having been nominated by Russell George MS.

GELLIGAER COMMUNITY COUNCIL Minutes of an ORDINARY Full Council Meeting of Gelligaer Community Council held on Wednesday 12th May 2021 at 7.00pm via remote access in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021. PRESENT Councillors: A Angel, D Cushing, C David, W David, M James, A McCarthy, S Milford, T Parry (Vice Chair), and J Pritchard (Chair) Clerk: C Mortimer A minute silence was held in respect of the recent and sudden passing of Cllr Carmen Bezzina’s dear mother Margaret Matthews. Our thoughts are with Carmen and her family at this very sad time. Chair Cllr Judith Pritchard welcomed everyone to the remote meeting. 92 Apologies An apology was received and approved from Cllr T Matthews who will remain absent until physical meetings can safely resume and Cllr Jodie Postians due to family commitments. An apology was also received and noted from Cllr C Bezzina due to the recent passing of her mother. 93 Declarations of Interest Councillors were reminded of their personal responsibility to declare any personal and/or prejudicial interest(s) in respect of any item of business on this agenda in accordance with the Local Government Act 2000, the Council’s Constitution, and the Code of Conduct for both Councillors and Clerk. Despite not being a part of the decision making process but for reasons of transparency the clerk declared an interest in Minute No.99 (i) - Save Ystrad Mynach Green Space Group as she is in support of the group and has made a small donation to them.
