As part of Sobeys acquisition of Canada Safeway, Canada’s Competition Bureau required divestiture of a number of their locations. Starting Wednesday, the store will be closed for a 3 day renovation, re-opening on Saturday, March 22. As usual, the Foundation office has been buzzing with activity. We wrapped up our 2016 Gala, whichthrive raised a staggering $435,000+ for the purchase of a brand new, modern digital x-ray unit for the hospital’s medical imaging department, and the plans are coming together for the ER expansion and new residential care and hospice facility. Needless to say, it has been all hands on deck! Speaking of the Peace Arch Hospital Gala, we decided to shake things up for 2016 and create a whole new experience for our guests, some of whom come year after year. Our Vintage Vegas themed evening was a huge success complete with Elvis, the Rat Pack and a special appearance by Marilyn Monroe who sang her rendition of Happy Birthday to our outgoing board chair, Art Reitmayer, as only Marilyn can. Look for pictures of this fun night of philanthropy on page 6. I would also like to introduce you to our new board chair, Siobhan Philips, who took the reins just last month. She is a dedicated volunteer and passionate fundraiser who has a long history of giving back to her community. Check out pages 12 and 13 for a profile on Siobhan. Lastly, we feature two extraordinary donors in this issue – Westland Insurance who recently made a gift of $500,000 to the ER expansion project and the late Margaret Rodgers, a wonderful friend of the Foundation who dedicated her final birthday to fundraise for Peace Arch Hospital. -

Merhaba Yasemin, Ben Vancouver’a ilk 2015 Haziran’ında geldiydim ve şehirden çok nefret etmiştim. Her yer günlük güneşlikti, insanlar mutlu mutlu mal mal geziniyordu plajlarda, ama kimse denize girmiyordu mesela. Ne bileyim, bir türlü uyuşmadım, zaten New York’tan gelmiştim, hem şehirden hem de birinden ayrılmıştım, Kanada’nın “politically correct” havasıyla da sürekli kavga ettim. Sonra Mart-Nisan 2016 aylarını tekrardan burada geçirince biraz daha rahat hissettiydim. Geldiğimizde hava sürekli griydi, arada sırada ağır yağmur yağıyordu, ve insanlar o kadar da mutlu değildi. Havalar açılmaya başlayınca annem geldi, New York’tan gitmeden önce mecazi anlamda sikimle yazdığım ve düzelttiğim çok kısa iki filmi çektim, en son günlerimde ise çok daha rahat, biraz daha uzak bir mahallesinde yaşadım. Şimdi Vancouver’a melankoliyle bakıyorum, çünkü hayatımın bazı önemli bölümlerini (başka şeylerle alakalı olduğu için) burada yaşadım. Yazın taşınmam büyük ihtimalle, kışının yağmuru biraz uzun sürse de şehir içinde gezinmenin güzel olacağını hayal ediyorum. Pahalı olsa da ılık kış mevsimi ve basit kafa yapısı yüzünden1 Kanada’da rahat yaşanabilecek tek şehir gibime geliyor. Suşisi de güzel ve ucuz, sıkıldıkça yeni bir restorana gidip onların çılgın deneysel suşilerini deneyebilirsin. Aynı şekilde deli gibi butik bira kaynıyor şehir, her gün yeni bir tane içersen yarını beklemen için bir sebep olur, adeta yavaş ve yumuşak bir ötenazi gibi. Peki şimdi diyeceksin, “Derin, allah belanı versin, neden bana bunları söylüyorsun?” Açıkçası ben de bilmiyorum. Bana fikir sordun, benim de zaten şehir rehberi yazma tutkum var, bari bunlar buluşsun da sana şehir hakkındaki bildiğim her şeyi aktarayım, her ne kadar her şeyi sen zaten kendin keşfedecek olsan da. -

Modern Meat Expands into Urban Fare, Western Canada's Gourmet Supermarket Chain Vancouver, British Columbia--(Newsfile Corp. - July 17, 2020) - Modern Meat Inc., (CSE: MEAT) ("Modern Meat") or (the "Company"), a fast-growing plant-based meat manufacturer, announced today that it will be rolling out its products into the frozen meat section and food service division of the popular Urban Fare grocery stores. Urban Fare is a subsidiary of the Overwaitea Food Group (OFG) which operates more than 160 stores under the banners of Save-On-Foods, Owerwaitea Foods, Urban Fare, PriceSmart Foods, PriceSmart Foods International and Bulkley Valley Wholesale.
