Chris Gahl, Senior VP of Marketing & Communication for Visit Indy, joined us to discuss the development aspects of Visit Indy and how their progress and success help to transform Indianapolis in to a destination and not another fly over state. Did you know that 80% of the US population is within a 2 day of Indianapolis? That is just one of the great facts we learned during our luncheon!! We also learned that 28.6 million people visited our great city in 2017, up from 22 million three years ago, which lead to $5.2 billion in visitor spending! Additionally, research shows that 80% of those that visited came for pleasure and/or leisure because they consider Indy an affordable, family friendly get away from their busy lives. The City, and Visit Indy, are working closely together to bring new, fun events to Indianapolis and also working to make it easier for people to get here by increasing the number of daily nonstop flights from Indianapolis? currently 51--and adding a recently established nonstop flight to Paris just started Memorial Day weekend! Which is all great news considering within the next few years we will be hosting Big 10 Football and Basketball finals, the NBA All Star game, men?s and women?s Final Four and Continued on page 11...
