    Star Wars Day at the Sacramento Zoo Popular event back for a second year WHAT’S HAPPENING: Meet your favorite Star Wars characters without making a trip to a galaxy far, far away. This Sacramento Zoo will bring the big screen to life with a visit from characters like Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, BB-8, R2-D2, Stormtroopers and other fan favorites. The day’s festivities will also focus on conservation and education with Star Wars-themed enrichments for the animals and children’s crafts. Visitors should anticipate large crowds throughout the day. The morning will also include a special character breakfast with Star Wars characters. Tickets for the breakfast are sold out. Dear Friends, Twenty years ago, the Belvedere Tiburon community came together after OFFICERS a decade of planning to build a library that would serve as an important John Scarborough, President community hub and educational space for current and future generations.     Star Wars Day 4th May In a Galaxy Far, Far Away…… May the fourth has become Star Wars Day for its close resemblance to the catch phrase, “May the force be with you”. Regardless of whether you are a fan or not, the Star Wars phenomenon has had a huge impact on modern life. It has introduced a number of sayings and spin off/ copies of the movie. Whilst it may seem silly to celebrate such a day, it is one of the happiest days of the year. It began as an in joke that most people who had seen Star Wars was in on and it became a day where people joined together in Star Wars silliness regardless of their background. Star Wars was an epic movie that was written and directed by George Lucas and premiered in 1977. It became a worldwide smash hit. Audiences had seen nothing like it before, sat in the theatre watching the enormous words scroll up the screen at the beginning of the movie, then the special effects which today seem so basic and yet, back then, were just fantastic! It took us all to a fantasy place we had never been before. Characters such as Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, C3P0, R2D2, Darth Vader, Yoda and Obi – Wan Kenobi. Today, 40+ years later there are still movies in franchise being made watched. Merchandise is sort after and some things are worth thousands of dollars to collectors. A lightsabre of Luke Skywalkers sold for over $172,000 and a camera used by George Lucas sold for $625,000.

This year’s nominations were announced in a pre-taped video package at 5:18 a.m. PT via a global live stream on Oscar.com, Oscars.org and the Academy’s digital platforms; a satellite feed and broadcast media. In keeping with tradition, PwC delivered the Oscars nominations list to the Academy on the evening of January 23. For a complete list of nominees, visit the official Oscars website, www.oscar.com. Academy members from each of the 17 branches vote to determine the nominees in their respective categories – actors nominate actors, film editors nominate film editors, etc. In the Animated Feature Film and Foreign Language Film categories, nominees are selected by a vote of multi-branch screening committees.
