As grieving Abigail tends to the needs of her taciturn husband Dyer (Casey Affleck) and Tallie bristles at the jealous control of her husband Finney (Christopher Abbot), both women are illuminated and liberated by their intense bond, filling a void in their lives they never knew existed. Director Mona Fastvold (The Sleepwalker, co-writer of CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER and VOX LUX) examines the interior lives of two women resisting constraints, giving voice to their experiences. Q&A with Director Mona Fastvold First of all, tell me how the material came your way. It’s an interesting pairing of a novelist adapting a short story — was this a script that came to you fully formed? The script came to me from one of our producers, Whitaker Lader, who had seen my previous film. She and Casey had been developing the script with the screenwriters, Ron Hansen and Jim Shepard, for some time. I was immediately struck by it.

Dear Friends, Twenty years ago, the Belvedere Tiburon community came together after OFFICERS a decade of planning to build a library that would serve as an important John Scarborough, President community hub and educational space for current and future generations. Douglas Norby, Vice President How fortunate we are that they achieved their goal! Today, people of all Barry Moss, Treasurer generations gather at our library to enjoy vibrant programming, discuss the latest books, and expand their horizons – all in a place that fosters human Jannette Mussche, Secretary connection. But so much has changed since that time. Programming has jumped to over 1,000 offerings per year, our community has grown by 10 percent, and Rachael Ong the library has been ranked among the highest in California for circulation, Amanda Rickel program attendance, and visits per capita. Lori Runnfeldt Our beloved library has reached capacity, and just as those who came before Jeff Slavitz us had the foresight to bring us the library we know and love today, we must again come together to plan for the future.

To reach those necessary goals, we strategically use an array of interconnected channels and platforms to transform not only the media landscape but also a cul- ture in which women’s and girls’ voices, stories, experiences, and images are nei- ther suffciently amplifed nor placed on par with the voices, stories, experiences, and images of men and boys. Our strategic tools include monitoring the media; commissioning and conducting research; and undertaking other special initiatives to spotlight gender and racial bias in news coverage, entertainment flm and television, social media, and other key sectors.     SHIRLEY MACLAINE TO RECEIVE 40th AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD America’s Highest Honor for a Career in Film to be Presented June 7, 2012 LOS ANGELES, CA, October 9, 2011 – Sir Howard Stringer, Chair of the American Film Institute’s Board of Trustees, announced today the Board’s decision to honor Shirley MacLaine with the 40th AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film. The award will be presented to MacLaine at a gala tribute on Thursday, June 7, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA. TV Land will broadcast the 40th AFI Life Achievement Award tribute on TV Land later in June 2012. The event will celebrate MacLaine’s extraordinary life and all her endeavors – movies, television, Broadway, author and beyond. "Shirley MacLaine is a powerhouse of personality that has illuminated screens large and small across six decades," said Stringer. "From ingénue to screen legend, Shirley has entertained a global audience through song, dance, laughter and tears, and her career as writer, director and producer is even further evidence of her passion for the art form and her seemingly boundless talents. There is only one Shirley MacLaine, and it is AFI’s honor to present her with its 40th Life Achievement Award." Last year’s AFI Tribute brought together icons of the film community to honor Morgan Freeman. Sidney Poitier opened the tribute, and Clint Eastwood presented the award at evening’s end. Also participating were Casey Affleck, Dan Aykroyd, Matthew Broderick, Don Cheadle, Bill Cosby, David Fincher, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Ashley Judd, Matthew McConaughey, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno, Tim Robbins, Chris Rock, Hilary Swank, Forest Whitaker, Betty White, Renée Zellweger and surprise musical guest Garth Brooks.

The Festival hosts screenings in Park ​ ​ City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 23–February 2, 2020. The Sundance Film Festival is Sundance Institute’s flagship public program, widely regarded as the largest American independent film festival and attended by more than 120,000 people and 1,300 accredited press, and powered by more than 2,000 volunteers last year. Sundance Institute also presents public programs throughout the year and around the world, including Festivals in Hong Kong and London, an international short film tour, an indigenous shorts program, a free summer screening series in Utah, and more.
