The EYFS Department at Edgeborough

The Reception year at Edgeborough is characterised by opportunity and individual growth. Not only is this the year where they complete the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework, but they also benefit from the new challenges and experiences through integration with the Pre-Prep. There are two classes in Reception. Class sizes are kept to an optimal, small number, in order for our dedicated teaching team to give each child the support, encouragement and challenge they need across the EYFS’s seven areas of learning. The Reception classes benefit from their own playground, but also have regular opportunities to play with their friends from Years 1 & 2. The child’s educational journey is shared through the online learning journey platform ‘Tapestry.’ We encourage an open-door policy and value partnership, with regular open-classrooms, Parents’ Evenings and ongoing communication between parents and class teachers (or the Head of EYFS), promoting trusting school-home relationships.

The Role

This is a full time position for a fixed term maternity cover. The candidate will be working alongside another Reception teacher within the reception area of the Pre Prep.

Remuneration On the Edgeborough Salary Scale (See above). The appointee will be placed on the scale according to experience and qualifications.

Edgeborough currently takes full part in the Teachers’ Pension Scheme. Main Responsibilities:

General Teaching Duties: 1. Planning and preparing lessons in accordance with the aims and objectives of the school and the programme of study, as determined by the subject co-ordinator – or Head of EYFS.

2. Teaching the pupils assigned to each class and being responsible for the welfare of the children for the time of the lesson.

3. Maintaining good order and discipline amongst the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety whilst they are under your supervision.

4. Assessing, recording and reporting on the development progress and attainment of pupils in accordance with procedures laid down.

5. Communicating with parents of pupils including effective use of Tapestry software (training will be provided).

6. Liaising with colleagues to ensure continuity and high standards of teaching and learning in each class.

7. Supervising and, as far as is practicable, teaching any pupils whose teacher is not available to teach them.

8. Assisting in the supervision of pupils before during and after school - as directed by the Head of Years EYFS and 1 & 2.

9. To be responsible during a fire alarm for the supervision of the pupils of any class they are teaching out of the buildings and their subsequent registration.

10. To be responsible for the organisation and supervision of pupils during relevant school trips in the manner laid out in the staff handbook.

11. Participating in, as appropriate, any meetings affecting the school, pupils and parents.

12. Maintaining resources and displays in an ordered way and to a high standard.

Other Responsibilities All staff are required to play their full part in the effective and efficient running of the school. This would include:

1. Taking Extra-curricular Activities where necessary. 2. Supervision Duties. 3. Attendance at Open Mornings, Speech Day and other full school occasions. 4. Carrying out any other duties which may be reasonably required by the Headmaster.
