On the day of Interview candidates will be required to:

Sport at Edgeborough

Edgeborough is very proud of its sports department which boasts some excellent staff and facilities; an AstroTurf, outdoor and indoor cricket nets, climbing wall, extensive gymnastics equipment to name but a few. It also benefits from extensive playgrounds and stunning outdoor space. Children are exposed to a multitude of sports and sporting fixtures become the highlight of the week for many children and parents.

JOB SPECIFICATION Job Title: Teacher of PE and Games

Responsible to: Director of Sport and the Headmaster

All staff attend INSET Training days and a small number of special school events e.g. parents evenings/Open Days etc.

Main Responsibilities

The teacher shall carry out the professional duties of a school teacher under the direction of the Headmaster, and these shall include.

1. To teach PE to pupils, both girls and boys, at Edgeborough ranging from ages 2-13

2. To coach teams games to Years 3-8. The core sports for the boys are rugby, cricket, hockey and soccer and hockey, netball, lacrosse and cricket for the girls.

3. As part of charitable element may be required to run the occasion coaching session at local primary schools

4. Liaising with Head of Girls’ Games and Director of Sport

5. Liaising with Grounds Staff and catering

6. Keeping abreast of relevant developments, regulations and legislation within your subject and communicating key elements to colleagues.

7. Organising internal sporting events – House matches, Sports Day, Swimming galas and others.

8. Supporting NQTs and non-specialist staff

9. Lesson planning

10. Taking responsibility for Health and Safety in all sporting activities.

11. Producing reports on sport for ‘The Edgeburian’.

12. Take full part in running activities. The ability to teach climbing would be an advantage. Full training will be given.

13. To be a form tutor.

14. There may be an opportunity to teach an additional subject depending on experience.

15. Planning and preparing lessons in accordance with the aims and objectives of the school and the programme of study, as determined by the subject co-ordinator – or Director of Sport

16. Teaching the pupils assigned to each class and being responsible for the welfare of the children for the time of the lesson.

17. Maintaining good order and discipline amongst the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety whilst they are under your supervision.

18. Assessing, recording and reporting on the development progress and attainment of pupils in accordance with procedures laid down.

19. Communicating with parents of pupils.

20. Liaising with colleagues to ensure continuity and high standards of teaching and learning in each class.

21. Supervising and, as far as is practicable, teaching any pupils whose teacher is not available to teach them.

22. Assisting in the supervision of pupils before during and after school - as directed by the Deputy Head

23. To be responsible during a fire alarm for the supervision of the pupils of any class they are teaching out of the buildings and their subsequent registration.

24. To be responsible for the organisation and supervision of pupils during relevant school trips in the manner laid out in the staff handbook.

25. Participating in, as appropriate, any meetings affecting the school, pupils and parents.

26. Maintaining resources and displays in an ordered way and to a high standard.

27. Participating in arrangements for training, professional development as a teacher and appraisal.

Salary & Pension  Your starting salary will be according to your Letter of Appointment. This takes into account your current qualifications and experience.  Edgeborough has its own salary scale which is reviewed annually and published in September.  Edgeborough currently takes full part in the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

Induction, Appraisal and Professional Development All staff follow a course of induction in their first year which forms the initial stage of the Appraisal Programme. As part of the Professional Development Programme, INSET Training is provided for 2-3 days before the start of each term.
