St Joseph’s Parish Monthly Recollection On the First Friday of every month, at 7:30 PM, we hold our Monthly Parish Recollection. This is an hour of prayer, of recollection before our Lord present in the Blessed Sacrament - whose Sacred Heart is the source of im- mense charity and generous love. The foundation of this prayer is God’s presence in our souls as Creator, Pre- server, and Author of Graces (“in Him we live, and move, and are” Acts 17:28). God is our Father, and our Friend and is our sweet Guest. We must acknowledge the realization of this great truth: God is in each of us, our soul is His Temple. This prayer of recollection includes the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction, Praying of the Psalms, Silence, Gospel Reading and a Talk /Reflection on the following topics: The Cardinal Virtues of pru- dence, justice, temperance and fortitude. The Theological Virtues of faith, hope and love. The gifts of the Holy Spirit; wisdom, under- standing, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord. Every soul, hungry & thirsty for God, is invited to this holy hour every First Friday of the month to adore, venerate & contemplate the Sacred Heart of Jesus, & to have a quiet dialogue with God. We are to use the things of this world certainly to survive in this world, but we must be God bless you always. careful to not let them use and control us. For if we Fr. Mike get so caught up in the things of this world and start working for them, instead of using them, they become our masters. As Jesus warns us; “…No servant can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon.” This of course is one of the hardest things we have to do, to keep the balance between our spiritual life and the needs we have to meet in our physical life. We can not do it on our own; we need the help of God to make sure that we serve Him: the right master. We do this through prayer, receiving the Sacraments, reading and praying over the Scriptures, practicing the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy, and following the Precepts of the Church. All of these help us, strengthen us, and keep us on the right track. Next Sunday at 3 PM we will celebrate Mass for all couples who will or have celebrated their 25th or 50th Wedding Anniversary this year (this is open to all those who are celebrating more than 50 years as well). On Sunday October 17, 2010 we will welcome The Most Rev. William F. Murphy to St. Joseph’s to celebrate the 12 Noon Mass as he comes to close our 100th Anniversary: all are invited. We regularly update our SICK LIST and our TROOPS LIST. Please notify the Rectory Office if you would like to renew your relative’s posting in either list. Diapers for Babies Collection Sat. Oct. 2 & Sun. Oct 3 The Respect Life Group of St. Joseph Parish asks your donation of diapers for babies and toddlers.

Keeping the toddler in diapers can put a big strain on a tight budget. St. Joseph’s Parish Outreach tells us diapers, sizes 4 & 5, are most needed. Please leave gifts with the volunteers by the bassi- net at the front door of the Church. Diapers will be given to St. Joseph’s Parish Outreach and our local Birthright office. For many years members of St. Joseph’s have donated truly beautiful hand- made blankets, sweaters, booties, etc. These are welcome as are baby clothing you may already have purchased for our October collection.

Note:Diapers, baby food, and new and used clothing are always welcome at the Outreach Office. Call 981-6888 for office hours and before bringing items of play equipment or furniture. For more information call St. Joseph’s Respect Life at 724-8586 or 588-0168.

St. Pius X Enriched Living Facility

For Our Retired Priests

During the weekend of September 25th and 26th, there will be a second collection throughout the Diocese to support the St. Pius X Enriched Living Facility in Amityville.

This facility, which is located at Dominican Village, houses our retired priests who are in need of assistance for their daily living. This facility was built to replace the former St Pius X facility in Uniondale. That facility was in deep need of upgrades and renovations so expensive that it was deemed impractical to make them.

The new residence is completely wheelchair accessible and includes 19 bedrooms, a Chapel, and a dining room. It also provides nutrition counseling, transportation into town, and a computerized emergency call system. Most importantly, this new facility allows our retired priests to live together in community in a setting that fosters their spiritual life, nurtures their physical and mental well being, and guarantees that they can continue to live their older years with dignity.

This annual collection is not to be confused with the Diocesan-wide collection for retired religious held annually in June. That collection exclusively supports the retirement needs of Religious Sisters and Brothers who have lovingly served the Diocese. The proceeds from this new collection go to fill the budget gap for the cost of this new Assisted Living Residence for our retired priests.

Please come prepared on that weekend to assist our retired priests with a gift as generous as your means will allow. Your gift may be placed in the collection basket on that weekend or, if you wish, you can mail a donation by using a postage-paid envelope that will be available in the church. Brochures describing this appeal are available in the back of the Church, and some of you may have already received or will receive them at home.

On behalf of all of the priests who serve our Diocese, Thank You!
