  • Swedish Royal Ancestry Book 4 1751-Present
GRANHOLM GENEALOGY SWEDISH ANCESTRY Recent Royalty (1751 - Present) INTRODUCTION Our Swedish ancestry is quite comprehensive as it covers a broad range of the history. For simplicity the information has been presented in four different books. Book 1 – Mythical to Viking Era (? – 1250) Book 2 – Folkunga Dynasty (1250 – 1523) Book 3 – Vasa Dynasty (1523 – 1751) Book 4 – Recent Royalty (1751 – Present) Book 4 covers the most recent history including the wars with Russia that eventually led to the loss of Finland to Russia and the emergence of Finland as an independent nation as well as the history of Sweden during World Wars I and II. A list is included showing our relationship with the royal family according to the lineage from Nils Kettilsson Vasa. The relationship with the spouses is also shown although these are from different ancestral lineages. Text is included for those which are highlighted in the list. IN SEARCH OF A GLOBAL, GODLY ORDER: THE ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT AND THE ORIGINS OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS, 1908-1918 A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate School of the University of Notre Dame in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy by James M. Donahue __________________________ Mark A. Noll, Director Graduate Program in History Notre Dame, Indiana April 2015 © Copyright 2015 James M. Donahue IN SEARCH OF A GLOBAL, GODLY ORDER: THE ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT AND THE ORIGINS OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS, 1908-1918 Abstract by James M. Donahue This dissertation traces the origins of the League of Nations movement during the First World War to a coalescent international network of ecumenical figures and Protestant politicians. Its primary focus rests on the World Alliance for International Friendship Through the Churches, an organization that drew Protestant social activists and ecumenical leaders from Europe and North America. The World Alliance officially began on August 1, 1914 in southern Germany to the sounds of the first shots of the war. Within the next three months, World Alliance members began League of Nations societies in Holland, Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain and the United States. The World Alliance then enlisted other Christian institutions in its campaign, such as the International Missionary Council, the Y.M.C.A., the Y.W.C.A., the Blue Cross and the Student Volunteer Movement. Key figures include John Mott, Charles Macfarland, Adolf Deissmann, W. H. Dickinson, James Allen Baker, Nathan Söderblom, Andrew James M. Donahue Carnegie, Wilfred Monod, Prince Max von Baden and Lord Robert Cecil.

  • The Historian-Filmmaker's Dilemma: Historical Documentaries in Sweden in the Era of Häger and Villius
ACTA UNIVERSITATIS UPSALIENSIS Studia Historica Upsaliensia 210 Utgivna av Historiska institutionen vid Uppsala universitet genom Torkel Jansson, Jan Lindegren och Maria Ågren 1 2 David Ludvigsson The Historian-Filmmaker’s Dilemma Historical Documentaries in Sweden in the Era of Häger and Villius 3 Dissertation in History for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy presented at Uppsala University in 2003 ABSTRACT Ludvigsson, David, 2003: The Historian-Filmmaker’s Dilemma. Historical Documentaries in Sweden in the Era of Häger and Villius. Written in English. Acta Universitatis Upsalien- sis. Studia Historica Upsaliensia 210. (411 pages). Uppsala 2003. ISSN 0081-6531. ISBN 91-554-5782-7. This dissertation investigates how history is used in historical documentary films, and ar- gues that the maker of such films constantly negotiates between cognitive, moral, and aes- thetic demands. In support of this contention a number of historical documentaries by Swedish historian-filmmakers Olle Häger and Hans Villius are discussed. Other historical documentaries supply additional examples. The analyses take into account both the produc- tion process and the representations themselves. The history culture and the social field of history production together form the conceptual framework for the study, and one of the aims is to analyse the role of professional historians in public life. The analyses show that different considerations compete and work together in the case of all documentaries, and figure at all stages of pre-production, production, and post-produc- tion. But different considerations have particular inuence at different stages in the produc- tion process and thus they are more or less important depending on where in the process the producer puts his emphasis on them.

  • Philatelic & Postal Bookplates
5.4 PHILATELIC AND POSTAL BOOKPLATES by BRIAN J. BIRCH © Brian J. Birch Lieu dit au Guinot, Route de St. Barthélemy 47350 Montignac Toupinerie, France 21st February 2018 BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THE BOUND VOLUME Although this document is only intended to exist in electronic form, I find it very convenient to have a hard copy to hand. It is easier to refer to a book than wait the five or ten minutes it takes to start up and close down a computer, just to obtain a single reference or check a fact. Books also give you the big picture of the document as a whole rather than the small-screen glimpses we have all got used to. Accordingly, I printed and bound a copy of this document in January 2005, which I have called the First edition, for convenience. Henceforth, I will bind a copy each January, provided the document has increased in size by at least ten percent during the year. At the same time, I will send an update to the web files on www.fipliterature.org, where the electronic version of this document is hosted. Since printing and binding is quite an expensive undertaking, I donated the obsolete volumes to important philatelic libraries round the world. By the middle of 2012, in line with my other documents, I simplified the set-up and turned off the remove widows and orphans feature. This resulted in a reduction in length of 15 pages. Reducing the amount of white space is an ongoing process in an effort to minimise the page count whilst not compromising usability.

FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE ROYAL FAMILIES OF EUROPE AND THE GUADAGNI THROUGH COMMON ANCESTORS OR MARRIAGE Dear Guadagni, Nowadays in Europe there are 10 monarchies: Belgium, Denmark, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands (aka Holland), Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom (aka Great Britain). There was only one republic, France, at the beginning of the 20th century (113 years ago). Defeats in major wars and revolutions reduced their numbers. While doing research on our Guadagni ancestors I found out the Guadagni are related to ALL these royal families, not by marriage, except for the Emperor of Russia, or “cousins of cousins” but by one or more common ancestors, even though often from the Middle Ages. So we share the same blood with them. We are also blood related with 4 important ex-monarchies: Savoia, Kings of Italy, Hapsburg, Emperors of Austria and of the Holy Roman Empire, Hohenzollern, Emperors of Germany, and of course the Bourbon, Kings of France, and by marriage with the Romanoff, Emperors of Russia. I will create a new folder for the Guadagni Family website called:”Family Relationships, through common ancestors or marriage between the Royal Families of Europe and the Guadagni”. I will put a different Guadagni Family member for each relationship with a European King or Queen, but obviously the name includes all the family, including the Guadagni girls and their descendants, who are just as much cousins of these Royal Families as everybody else. The reason for this is that the computer only links a person (for example Queen Elizabeth II) to another person,(for example Dino Guadagni), not to a family (like “the Guadagnis”).
