SPECIAL CAMP The NSS Special Camp was held from April 22 to 28, 2019 at the adopted village of Ammapalayam, Gobi Taluk, Erode District with the motto of self-entrepreneurship development. Totally 59 students of II B.Sc. (Agri.) 2017 -18 Batch attended this camp. Kumaraguru Institute Of 29 30 59 22.04.2019 28.04.2019 Ammapalayam, Agriculture Erode District PARTHENIUM ERADICATION AND TREE SAPLING PLANTING PROGRAMME (Day 1) Parthenium eradication Rally was conducted on 22.04.2019 by the NSS volunteers. During the rally adverse effects created by parthenium weed and its control measures were highlighted. Students took up control measures of the weed in farmers’ fields with the participation of 25 farmers. A Special Lecture on ‘Importance of Parthenium Eradication and Their Control Measures’ was delivered to farmers by Dr. C. Sangeetha, Assistant Professor (Agronomy), KIA. Followed by 30 tree Saplings were planted by NSS volunteers alongside the Ammapalayam Village road, and were provided protection. Parthenium Awareness Rally Parthenium Control by NSS Volunteers Tree Sapling Planting by NSS Volunteers PLASTIC ERADICATION AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AND IMPORTANCE OF SOIL TESTING (Day 2) Plastic Eradication Awareness Rally was conducted on 23.04.2019. NSS volunteers collected the plastic waste from the Village and adjacent agricultural lands. A Special Lecture was delivered by Dr. V.Velu, Guest Faculty (Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry), KIA about the ‘Adverse effects of plastic in agricultural land and importance of soil testing’. Around 30 farmers participated and benefitted from this programme. Plastic Awareness Rally Cleaning of Plastic Waste by NSS Volunteers TRAINING ON VERMICOMPOSTING, BEE KEEPING AND MUSHROOM CULTIVATION (Day 3) On the third day of the Special Camp (24.04.2019), free trainings on vermicomposting, bee keeping and mushroom cultivation were organized to promote self-employment among the village people. The Trainings were conducted by Dr.V. Karthika, Assistant Professor (Environmental Science), Mr. V. Dhanasekar, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Entomology) and Mrs. M. Maheshwari, Assistant Professor (Plant Pathology), KIA, respectively. More than 30 farmers participated and benefited. Training on Mushroom Production Training on Honey Bee Rearing FREE HEALTH TESTING AND EYE CHECK-UP CAMP (Day 4) Free medical health check-up and eye check-up camp were organized on the fourth day of the Special Camp (25.04.2019), with the help of V.M.K Hospital, Appakudal. More than 100 people from Ammapalayam and nearby Villages benefitted from this camp. The village people underwent health check-up and eye check-up by a team of doctor and were given medicine and consultation free of cost. The doctor distributed Vitamin tablets and medicines for wound and pain relief ointment to the needy people. Free Health Check Up TRAINING ON HYDROPONICS, AZOLLA PRODUCTION AND SILAGE PRODUCTION (Day 5) On the fifth day of the Special Camp (26.04.2019), free trainings on hydroponics, Azolla production and silage production were organized to encourage nutrient rich cattle feed production. The trainings were conducted by Dr. C. Sangeetha, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) and Dr. M. Iniyakumar, Assistant Professor (Microbiology), KIA. More than 40 farmers participated and benefited from the programme. Training on Azolla Production TRAINING ON VALUE ADDED FOOD PRODUCTION (Day 6) On the sixth day (27.04.2019) of the NSS Special Camp, a value added food production training was conducted. On that day, Dr. S. Umamaheshwari, Assistant Professor (Food Science and Nutrition), KIA provided the training to village people on elephant food yam value added food production. Around 35 people participated in this training. Training on Value Added Food Production YOGA TRAINING AND PHYSICAL FITNESS AWARENESS CAMP (Day 7) On the seventh day of the Special Camp (28.04.2019), yoga training and physical fitness awareness activities were organized to Ammapalayam Village people. During the camp, Th. C. Jayanthi, Assistant Professor, Manavalakalai Mandram, Gobichettipalayam delivered a Special Lecture about the ‘Importance of Yoga for Physical Fitness’. On that occasion, free training was given to the village people for different yoga Asanas. More than 50 people enthusiastically participated in this training and benefitted. Blood Donation camp (21.11.2019) NSS volunteers donated 50 units of blood in blood Donation camp which was conducted on Nov. 21, 2019 at KIA in association with PHC, Athani, Erode District. Authority for District Disaster Management Plan: In accordance with the ‘Section 30’ of the ‘Disaster Management Act, 2005’ Sub-Section (1) The District Authority shall act as the district planning; coordinating and implementing body for disaster management and take all measures for the purposes of disaster management in the district in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the National Authority and the State Authority. 1.3. Evolution of DDMP: Historically, emergency management and preparedness has been a reactive science. The District Magistrate who is the chief co-ordinator will be the focal point for coordinating all activities relating to prevention, mitigation and preparedness apart from his existing responsibilities pertaining to response and relief.
