The innovation for which the company has been given an Award is a minimally invasive surgical guidance system. A lymph node identifying magnetic tracer known as Sienna, and a metallic tumour marker Magseed, can be located accurately by a surgeon in theatre with a handheld detector called Sentimag. This removes the need for radioactive isotopes during procedures, and in the case of breast lumpectomy wire localisation, thereby improving workflow, lowering costs and enhancing patient comfort and quality of care. Designed originally for the management of breast cancer, the platform has since extended to include prostate, melanoma, head and neck, and gynaecological cancers. With 18 granted patents and 35 pending the company is a prolific innovator. Their Queen's Award for Innovation has been awarded for their application of this specialism in developing an innovative machine learning fraud management software platform called ARIC. It was first identified as a solution as the online gaming industry was constantly under attack by fraudsters. Traditional methods of combatting these attacks were not proving effective. ARIC is the world's first software platform to identify fraud attacks as they occur, whilst at the same time reducing the number of genuine customers who are incorrectly blocked. The system learns individual customer's digital behaviours, accurately predicts their ongoing interactions, and spots anomalous behaviours. As it does not rely upon knowledge of past fraud attacks, and works in real time to prevent fraud, it is highly effective. ARIC has now been adopted in financial services. To ensure continued usefulness and value for money for parents as they add to their family, the system also converts to a double pushchair, with the same physical footprint and still folding down to a small configuration. Delivering the flexibility and convenience that consumers were looking for, as well as achieving the essential international safety standards, required a high level of engineering ingenuity. With the system delivering 83% growth over the reviewed period, and contributing to almost doubling the number of employees, the company has demonstrated an outstanding level of innovation.     CHAPTER ONE. BATH ABBEY Why has so little interest been taken in a once notable Benedictine house, the abbey or cathedral-priory of Bath? Perhaps it is that the church as it now stands does not offer much of real interest. Among the ancient minsters of England it does not hold a pre-eminent place; and the fact that it was not completed at the time of the reformation and was never consecrated makes us regard it with but scant attention. Yet there are in it some features worthy of note, and it is the only visible sign that tells of the monastic history of Bath, carrying thought and imagination back more than twelve hundred years. It is to no purpose to write here of the ancient city of Bath under Roman dominion, of its greatness and splendour. But it may be a point of interest to realise somewhat in imagination what kind of spot it was in which the city’s first monastic foundation was made. The days of the Saxon invasion were days of horror. But little mercy did the pagan hordes show to their enemies, and they cared not at all for the civilisation they might have inherited. Their course was ever marked by fire and sword; and imagination gathers up the few records of their progress and intensifies the horrors by taking no note of the long years of time and the many miles of distance which made the background of the great tragedy. Yet we know that the struggle was of more than a hundred years duration.

    SUPPLEME~NT -: TO THE BRITISH MEDICAIJOURNAL LONDON: SATURDAY, MAY 9th, 1931. THE REGISTER OF BIO-PHYSICAL ASSISTANTS. The Representative Body of the British Medical Association, at its annual meeting in 1928, pointed out the need for the registration of competent and suitable lay persons to whom medical practitioners could with confidence send their patients for electrical treatment and actinotherapy. A small committee of experts was formed to draft general lines of procedure, and an arrangement was entered into with the Society of Apothecaries of London to institute a register of approved persons under the conditions prescribed. Regulations were drawn up and the first Register of Bio-Physical Assistarhts was printed and published in book form a year ago under the direction of the Society of Apothecaries. With the object of making the Register widely known and easily accessible to members of the medical profession at home and abroad, it has been decided to publish, as a special Supplement to THE BRITISH MEDICAL JOURNAL this week, the complete list of names on the roll of bio-physical assistants, revised to March 31st, 1931. The entries in Part I are arranged in alphabetical order, with postal addresses; in Part II the names are regrouped geographically. Subject to the reservation in respect of blind masseurs and blind masseuses, those whose names'appear in the general and local lists printed below have been approved by the Society of Apothecaries of London as persons "competent to dispense the direct current, ionization, faradic currents, sinusoidal currents, diathermy, high frequency currents, light and heat, and ultra-violet light."
