The left wing Socialist Peoples' Party also lost a seat despite maintaining ils share of votes. The ruain sut·prise was the success of the 111ovement opposed to further Danish participation in closer European integration in retaining its four seats. Maurice Duverger, the French politician standing on the Communist Party list was elected but former UK Liberal Party leader David Steel, who polled 15,511 votes, on the Centre Party list was not.
