11 United Benefice of Padstow St. Merryn St. Issey Trevone Little Petherick 2 A message from Bishop Philip… A message from Bishop Philip… n this Diocese of Truro we are deeply committed to ‘Discovering God’s Kingdom: Growing the Church’. Ordained ministers are crucial to this task, so I sketch out here the kind of priests we are eager to come and work with us. First and foremost, we are looking for joyful and hopeful disciples and ambassadors of Christ: people who share the Gospel with energy and commitment, in word and deed - and above all with love. We are not looking for people who see themselves as omni- competent, but who are rather committed to setting the whole people of God free in mission, ministry, and in loving service. Further, we are looking for people who, on this journey, are imaginative and realistic, creative and determined and are hopeful of a better future. But we also want to work with those who recognise that they are not perfect and will sometimes fail, who learn from their mistakes and will take the initiative in seeking reconciliation with others. We are convinced that all ministers need the support and companionship of others and we help priests in a number of ways so that they never work alone. In this spirit, we encourage priests who can forge good relations with others and actively collaborate with them for the sake of the Kingdom to join us here in the Diocese of Truro. Finally we are looking for people who will love, value and serve Cornwall: a wonderful place with its own very distinctive identity and Christian heritage.

  • The Kresen Kernow Guide to Researching Your Family History
The Kresen Kernow Guide to Researching your Family History Researching your family history can be an exciting adventure, taking you on a journey you may never have imagined. It can also be a long and involved process, so here are some tips to help you get started. First, organise what you know already and decide what you want to find out. This will prevent you getting side-tracked by irrelevant information. Remember, other members of your family often know lots of useful information. Starting with yourself and working backwards write down all that you and your relatives know about your family. Using letters, photographs, newspaper cuttings and family bibles can help with this. Make sure you record where your information has come from. Include notes when a search has been unsuccessful to prevent you looking in the same place twice. Start to draw a family tree or chart, leaving space to add more information when you find it. Read a book or magazine on genealogy (family history). There is also lots of information available online. Once you have done all this you are ready to get started on archive research and can plan your visit to Kresen Kernow. Please note, all our records have Cornish connections so if your ancestors are from elsewhere we might not be of much use to you. However, we do provide access to online sources that could still be helpful. When researching your ancestors, it is helpful to first find out their basic details – such as name, dates of birth and death, family members, places where they lived - and there are a few vital sources that can help you do this.

Study 4978 Cornwall OnLine Census Project, 1891 This document was supplied by the depositor and has been modified by AHDS History Introduction THIS STUDY contains our [Cornwall Online Census Project] transcript of the 1891 census returns for Cornwall. It has been transcribed, checked and validated by the volunteers of the Cornwall Online Census Project, the Cornish arm of the Free Census project. The original records are held by The National Archives and this transcription is done with their permission. Image copies of the original returns can be viewed on film, fiche or CDROM from commercial suppliers and at many research facilities around the world. This study contains a full transcription of the 1891 census returns for Cornwall—a snapshot of the people and places of Cornwall on the night of April 5th, 1891. The file names are the PRO piece number code (without punctuation). About UK Census Returns About Free Census (FreeCEN) was started early in 2000 with a pilot project for the 1891 census returns for Devon. The aim of Free Census is to transcribe all the UK 19th century census returns. It is part of FreeUKGEN and is a sister project to FreeBMD and FreeREG. The intention is that all three of the UK primary sources for the family historian will be online and “free to view.” Six months after the Devon project started, the Cornwall 1891 commenced. Most English and Welsh counties are now covered for the 1891, with the Scottish projects concentrating on the 1841. There are several English 1861 projects, using commercially produced discs and two English 1841 projects, including Cornwall.
