His sage advice and ability to resolve minor issues had been greatly valued. Mr Burrough was asked to convey the condolences of Curry Mallet Parish Council to Beercrocombe Council. 1192 Public Participation Time There were no items raised. 1193 To receive reports from the District and County Councillors on items that may be of interest The report from Derek Yeomans has been previously circulated to members. He vocalised that SCC were moving from implementer to motivator, using a private company for its care arrangements. Part-time Attendance: Cllr Sue Steele, Cllr Clare Paul & Cllr David Hall (SCC Cabinet member for Economic Dev., Planning & Community Infrastructure (all re min. 1709), Mrs M F Hughes & Mr M Cavill (both re min. 1708). 1708. Public Participation Time. Mrs Hughes, in her capacity as Tree Warden, apprised the Council of the intended felling of a chestnut tree within the village. As the tree was situated on private land, and was not covered by a Tree Protection Order or other legal provisions, the Council was not minded to take a view as to possible merits of its retention. Mrs Hughes was invited to canvass local opinion via the next issue of the parish newsletter, albeit with no recommendation from the Council. Mr Cavill introduced himself as a former farmer in Fivehead parish, and longstanding Chairman of its parish council, and stated his intent to stand for election in May as a prospective candidate for the District Council’s Islemoor Ward. 1709. BATES, M.A HE late Mr. W illiam Long contributed to the seventeenth “L volume of the Proceedings in 1871 a classified list of the Church Dedications given by Ecton in his Thesaurus Rerum Ecclesiasticarum, 1742. As Editor of the Bath and Wells Diocesan Kalendar my attention has been frequently drawn, from my own knowledge as well as by numerous correspon- dents, to the many errors and gaps in that list. It became plainly necessary to go behind the Thesaurus to the original sources of information. And here I may be allowed to repro- duce what I have already stated in the preface to the Kalendar for 1905. It should be clearly understood that there is no authoritative list in existence. Among the Public Becords are two works known as Pope Nicholas’ Taxatio of 1291, and the Valor Ec- clesiasticus of 27 Henry VIII (1536), containing the names of all parishes in England and Wales. These were primarily drawn up to ascertain the value of the benefices, and only in- cidentally, as in the case of towms with many churches, are the dedications added. The latter work, to which the title of V^ahr Ecclesiasticus or Liber Regis is generally given, was first printed in 1711 by J ohn Ecton. His preface contains a very interesting account of the early work of the Queen Anne’s Bounty Fund, of which he was Receiver, and of the serious state of affairs in the large towns which led to its foundation.

HANCOCK, M.A., F.S.A., Prebendary of Wells. compiling another portion of the Inventory, I have had INthe valuable assistance of Prebendary Hancock for the Wiveliscombe District of Dunster Deanery. The descriptions ' of the plate were handed over to me to be reduced to common form,' while the Introductory notice and the notes on each parish, with certain exceptions in square brackets, are by him alone. A change of residence has compelled me to vary the original plan of taking each Archdeaconry in turn. The Midsomer Norton district of the Frome Deanery must be left over for the present. It was possible, however, to take the llchester district, thus completing that deanery. In the Archdeaconry of Taunton the whole of the Crewkerne Deanery has been worked over, and one district of the Dunster Deanery. These four districts contain ninety ancient parishes, and nine modern parishes and chapelries, total ninety-nine. The most interesting and valuable item is the Nettlecombe chalice with its paten, the oldest plate in England bearing a date-letter, whereby its age is exactly known. A full account * Part I, containing the complete Deaneries of Gary and Merston appeared in vol. xlii II districts of Frome and in vol. xliii. ; part containing Martock 12fi Papers, Sfc. will be found in the Introduction to the District and in the notes on the parish. There is a large quantity of Elizabethan plate, exclusively cups arid covers, it being found in fifty-five parishes.

To receive reports from County and District Councillors on items that may be of interest .1 The County Conservative Group’s briefing sheet references to Children’s Services and to its new ‘Family Support Service’ were noted; provision of the denoted incremental services would place additional demands on the SCC 2018/2019 budget, and therefore cut-backs could be envisaged in budgets allocated for other service provision. .2 A Private Member’s Bill was to be introduced to parliament for facilitating separate precepting by the Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA). It was unclear as to what impact this new council tax element would have on the County and District Councils’ council tax levies which presently included an amount for SRA. .3 The DEFRA Consultation ‘Crime & Poor Performance in the Waste Sector’ was discussed in relation to Somerset Waste Partnership and fly-tipping; Mr Allard’s Environmental Health experience suggested that the blight of ‘fly- tipping’ would be controlled more effectively by additional enforcement manpower rather than by recourse to remote cameras placed at tipping ‘hot spots’, for which cumbersome administrative procedures were necessary.

    14 June 2021 A358 Dualling: Taunton to Southfields Parish Councils’ Proposals for Satisfactory Connectivity Mattock’s Tree Green to Southfields The following Parish Councils endorse these proposals: Stoke St. Mary Ashill West Hatch Broadway Hatch Beauchamp Ilton Beercrocombe Donyatt 1. The new connection at Mattock’s Tree Green Junction to the existing A358 and Henlade is unwarranted. The existing junction at Thornfalcon suffices with the additional spur to roundabout north. The busy Hatch Beauchamp Village Road needs to be connected to Thornfalcon junction via the existing A358. This cost neutral proposal would improve movement of local traffic, neighbourhood safety and reduce severance. 2. The West Hatch Lane link to Somerset Progressive School and adjacent Business Park is impractical, as the diversionary route proposed is some 3 miles distance along very narrow windy lanes. The link should be from the School/Business Park direct to Mattock’s Tree Green roundabout south. Re-routing this link should be cost neutral. Walkers, cyclists and horse riders use this lane extensively so the scheme’s proposal for greater use of this lane by local motorised traffic is dangerous. 4. Bickenhall Lane is a busy local route favoured by farm traffic and lorries. This lane needs to be kept open by extending the planned service road from Ashill to Hatch Beauchamp overbridge to Bickenhall Lane. Slip road access should be provided onto the westbound carriageway at the western end of this extended service road.
