Introduction Ogloblin (1935) described two species, Paranaphoidea silvana and P. clavata from South America. But Schauff (1983) erected the genus Omyomymar with P. silvanum as the type species by transferring the species P. silvana from Paranaphoidea to Omyomymar. In addition to the two species described by Ogloblin (1935), Schauff (1983) described two species, O. grisselli, and O. alar from the New World and also transferred P. clavata to Omyomymar. Later, Lin and Chiappini (1996) described three new species (O. glabrum, O. breve and O. longidigitum) from the Old World, China. There was no report of Omyomymar from India till 2010, when Manickavasagam & Rameshkumar (2011) reported this genus for the first time in India based on two females. MAPPING THE SPIDER FAUNA (ARANEAE) OF FINLAND Seppo Koponen Zoological Museum, University of Turku, FI-20014 Turku, Finland Abstract — The history of research on the spider fauna of Finland is briefly dealt with. The first list of spiders from Finland was published by Nordmann in 1863 and included 140 species; the well-known list of Palmgren (1977) included 595 species and the present (internet) checklist contains ca. 640 species. A recent study project on Finnish spiders and their distribution patterns (“The Spider Fauna of Finland”) is also discussed. Key words: Araneae, spiders, fauna, distribution, research history, threatened species, Finland INTRODUCTION The area of Finland is about 338000 km2, and the country is situated between 60° and 70° N latitude. Most of Finland belongs to the boreal coniferous forest (taiga) zone, the southwestern corner to the hemiboreal zone, and the northernmost parts to the sub-arctic zone. About 80% of Finland can be classified as lowland, lying below 200 m. The highest point of the country is situated in Lapland: Halti, 1328 m a.s.l., in the northwesternmost corner of Finland. The known spider fauna of Finland consists of about 640 species (Koponen, 2007). For comparison, the number of spiders reported from neighboring coun- tries, Sweden (Almquist, 2006) and Norway (Artsdatabanken, 2006), is 716 and 562, respectively. -

VIRLA & MARIANO ORDANO Abstract: The corn leafhopper Dalbulus maidis (DeLong) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), e20190686 transmits three important plant pathogens that adversely affect corn crop and ranges from the USA to Argentina. The vector has a rich natural enemy complex that generates high levels of parasitism, but its populations are persistent and prevalent. We 93 characterized the oviposition sites of D. maidis on young corn plants in order to verify (1) 93(1) the hypothesis that the vector has an oviposition strategy for mitigating parasitism. Oviposition locations on plants were assessed in the laboratory and eggs within corn DOI plants were exposed to natural parasitism in a cornfield. Eggs were located mostly laid 10.1590/0001-3765202120190686 in the unfolded leaves and were attacked by five parasitoid species. Parasitism was significantly affected by the class of leaf and the position of the egg in the leaf.Anagrus virlai Triapitsyn was the most abundant parasitoid species, which emerged significantly higher in the basal blade than other species. Our results suggest that leafhoppers minimize egg parasitism by laying their eggs within concealed locations on the plant. -

Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine (2016) 12:47 DOI 10.1186/s13002-016-0118-7 RESEARCH Open Access Folk knowledge of invertebrates in Central Europe - folk taxonomy, nomenclature, medicinal and other uses, folklore, and nature conservation Viktor Ulicsni1* , Ingvar Svanberg2 and Zsolt Molnár3 Abstract Background: There is scarce information about European folk knowledge of wild invertebrate fauna. We have documented such folk knowledge in three regions, in Romania, Slovakia and Croatia. We provide a list of folk taxa, and discuss folk biological classification and nomenclature, salient features, uses, related proverbs and sayings, and conservation. Methods: We collected data among Hungarian-speaking people practising small-scale, traditional agriculture. We studied “all” invertebrate species (species groups) potentially occurring in the vicinity of the settlements. We used photos, held semi-structured interviews, and conducted picture sorting. Results: We documented 208 invertebrate folk taxa. Many species were known which have, to our knowledge, no economic significance. 36 % of the species were known to at least half of the informants. Knowledge reliability was high, although informants were sometimes prone to exaggeration. 93 % of folk taxa had their own individual names, and 90 % of the taxa were embedded in the folk taxonomy. Twenty four species were of direct use to humans (4 medicinal, 5 consumed, 11 as bait, 2 as playthings). Completely new was the discovery that the honey stomachs of black-coloured carpenter bees (Xylocopa violacea, X. valga)were consumed. 30 taxa were associated with a proverb or used for weather forecasting, or predicting harvests. Conscious ideas about conserving invertebrates only occurred with a few taxa, but informants would generally refrain from harming firebugs (Pyrrhocoris apterus), field crickets (Gryllus campestris) and most butterflies.
