Our Story Our Purpose The mission of the World Golf Hall of Fame is to preserve and honor the history of golf and the legacies of those who have made it great. Through revealing and inspirational storytelling and exhibitions, the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum honors its 164 members and the history of this 550-year-old game. The Hall of Fame's Induction Ceremony is the highlight of every other year, when new members are welcomed into the Hall of Fame in an internationally televised event that celebrates the game's long and rich heritage and recognizes its greatest players and contributors. The World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit institution and relies on a variety of revenue streams to support its exhibitions, educational programs and curatorial initiatives. A Global Institution After years of refining its cause and determining its role within the worldwide golf community, the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum opened in 1998. Plans for the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum originated with former PGA TOUR Commissioner Deane Beman, whose vision focused on creating an institution where the greatest players on the PGA TOUR would be honored and celebrated for generations to come. Beman’s vision became bigger over time, and the concept escalated into a worldwide effort that would come to enjoy unprecedented collaboration among the international golf community. Today, the World Golf Hall of Fame & Museum works closely with the world’s leading golf organizations, including the PGA TOUR, LPGA, the Masters, USGA, PGA of America, PGA European Tour and The R&A, along with the professional tours in Asia, Australia, Japan and South Africa. Each of these organizations believes in the Hall of Fame's mission and recognizes the importance of the legacy and honoring the history of golf and the legacies of those who have made it great. .

Bio GFA & Betsy
Betsy King Betsy King was the best player in women’s golf in late 1980’s/early 1990’s. From 1985 through 1990, Betsy won a total of 20 LPGA Tour events, more wins than any other golfer in the world, male or female. She played on the LPGA tour for 28 years with 34 career wins total, including six major championships. She played on five Solheim Cups and was the captain of the victorious 2007 Solheim Cup. In 1995 Betsy was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame and inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Betsy played collegiately at Furman University where she was on the 1976 national championship team. King was low amateur at the 1976 U.S. Women's Open, then joined the LPGA Tour in 1977. Betsy retired from the Tour in 2005 and dedicated her life to helping others. In 2007 Betsy founded Golf Fore AFRICA after a trip to AFRICA where she saw the devastating plight of AIDS orphans and extreme poverty. By enlisting the support of LPGA players and golfers, Betsy and Golf Fore AFRICA have raised over $6 million to build health clinics and bring clean water to villages in Zambia and Rwanda. Golf Fore Africa Golf Fore Africa was founded in 2007 by LPGA Hall of Fame Golfer Betsy King following a 2006 trip with World Vision to Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia. After witnessing the terrible plight of poverty and HIV/AIDS, and its devastating effects on the children of Africa, she came home with a passion to make a difference in these children’s lives and a vision to do so using her gifts and experience in golf.

USGA Announces Postponement of 75th U.S. Women’s Open Championship Milestone championship will remain at Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas, and will be played Dec. 10-13 on two courses LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. (April 3, 2020) – The USGA today announced that due to the evolving dynamics of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the 75th U.S. Women’s Open, originally scheduled for June 4-7 at Champions Golf Club in Houston, TeXas, has been postponed to Dec. 10-13. “The USGA remains committed to hosting the U.S. Women’s Open in 2020,” said USGA CEO Mike Davis. “We are grateful to the LPGA and our broadcast partner FOX for their terrific collaboration in finding a new date for the championship. Our priority remains ensuring the safety of all involved with the U.S. Women’s Open, while still providing the world’s best players the opportunity to compete this year.” To account for reduced daylight given the move to December, the Jackrabbit Course at Champions Golf Club will be used in conjunction with the Cypress Creek Course, which was originally slated to host all four rounds of championship play. The Jackrabbit will co-host Rounds 1 and 2. U.S. Women’s Open qualifying, which is run in conjunction with Allied Golf Associations and international federations, is eXpected to be held on rescheduled dates and potentially some new locations. The USGA is also reviewing how the postponement will affect eXemption categories, and definitive changes will be communicated when they are finalized. “We are incredibly thankful to Champions Golf Club for its fleXibility and support during this uncertain time,” said Davis.

Executive Committee The long-term direction and policies of the World Golf Hall of Fame are determined by the Executive Committee of the World Golf Foundation's Board of Directors. The Executive Committee is made up of representatives from seven of the most respected and established organizations in golf. United States Golf Association Mike Davis, Executive Director 2013 Executive Committee Chair The USGA is a global leader in the development and support of sustainable golf course management practices. It serves as a primary steward for the game’s history, and funds an ongoing “For the Good of the Game” grants program. Additionally, the USGA’s Course Rating and Handicap systems are used on six continents in more than 50 countries. The USGA's working jurisdiction comprises the United States, its territories, and Mexico. The USGA conducts the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open and U.S. Senior Open, as well as 10 national amateur championships, two state team championships and international matches. Together with The R&A, the USGA governs the game worldwide, jointly administering the Rules of Golf, Rules of Amateur Status, equipment standards, and World Amateur Golf Rankings. Goosen also is fortunate he turns 50 on Sunday, just in time for the South African to become eligible for the PGA TOUR Champions’ first full-field event.
