    American Cup Returns to Greensboro, N.C., in 2019

    American Cup returns to Greensboro, N.C., in 2019 GREENSBORO, N.C., April 26, 2018 – The American Cup, the USA’s most prestigious international invitational and part of the International Gymnastics Federation’s all-around World Cup series, returns to the Greensboro (N.C.) Coliseum Complex on March 2, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. ET. The American Cup, which was held in Greensboro in 2014, is the anchor of a week that includes four gymnastics events. In addition to the American Cup, the Triple Cup weekend includes the Nastia Liukin Cup on March 1 at 7 p.m. and the men’s Elite Team Cup at 6 p.m. on March 2. The Greensboro Coliseum Complex is also hosting the 2019 Greensboro Gymnastics Invitational Feb. 27-March 3, turning the city into “gymnastics central.” The USA’s Morgan Hurd of Middletown, Del./First State Gymnastics, and Yul Moldauer of Arvada, Colo./University of Oklahoma, won the 2018 American Cup. The American Cup showcases many of the world’s best male and female gymnasts in a one-day, all- around competition, and invitations to compete will be based on performances at the 2018 World Gymnastics Championships. Held in conjunction with the American Cup, the Nastia Liukin Cup features many of the country’s top Junior Olympic female gymnasts and is held at 7 p.m. on the night prior to the American Cup. Named after the 2008 Olympic gold medalist and one of the USA’s most popular gymnasts, the Nastia Liukin Cup showcases gymnasts who qualify through the Nastia Liukin Cup Series.

    inside USA gymnastics It has been wonderful to see current and former national team athletes continue to excel on various stages. Not only are they world-class in their sport, but many of these athletes also represent outstanding ambassadors and role models each and every day. If you watched the NCAA Championships for men and women, you most likely recognized many national team members in the spotlight. On the women’s side, 2004 Olympic Silver and Bronze Medalist Courtney Kupets helped guide her University of Georgia team to its fifth consecutive team title. Courtney also won the all-around and at least shared a portion of three of the four event titles, plus won the Honda Award for the second time. Other former national team members who finished top three in the all-around or on an event at NCAA Championships were Susan Jackson, Carly Janiga, 2004 Olympic Silver Medalist Courtney McCool, 2006 World Championships team member Ashley Priess and Cory Hartung. At the men’s NCAA Championships, Oklahoma’s Steven Legendre won the all- around and two event titles, while Glen Ishino, Paul Ruggeri, Chris Brooks, Tim Gentry, and Thomas Kelley also placed in the top three in a variety of events. 2008 Olympic Team members Justin Spring, Kevin Tan and David Durante were coaches for Illinois, Penn State, and Stanford, respectively, with Stanford winning the men’s team title. Spring was recently named associate head coach for the Illini. The blaze started around 10:30 a.m. Firefighters from North Bend and Coos Bay had it mostly extinguished — though still heavily smoking — by around 2 p.m. “With all the damage inside, it is a complete loss,” said Pastor Jerry Steele on Tuesday afternoon, the smoldering church at his back. It’s where you come to start something BIG. MADISON KOCIAN Olympic Gold Medalist WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS The women’s program welcomes recreational and competitive gymnasts of all ability levels. All Olympic events plus trampoline are taught during instruction periods with an emphasis on fundamentals and learning new skills. Instructors teach skills progressing in difficulty on each event to ensure that campers are learning proper technique. Open gym times allow for gymnasts to work on individual goals with our professional coaching staff. MEN’S GYMNASTICS The men’s program focuses on optional and compulsory skill progression during the required morning classes. Strength, flexibility, and drills are taught in the afternoon, including a trampoline rotation every day.
