They taught me that traditional opinions are not sacrosanct. Leroy and Carl prepared me to do justice to the biblical text in spite of long-held traditions. They challenged me to rethink and reinterpret what had been handed down to me from my forefathers. Prior to my encounter with these two men, the traditions of the church made it difficult for me to read the Word of God correctly. 3 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to acknowledge the rich blessings that the Lord Jesus has bestowed upon my life. Since becoming a Christian in 1949, I have been guided by God through many changes that have led to personal growth and development. God in His mercy allowed me to enter Southern Christian University (now Amridge University) to begin in-depth studies that eventually concluded with the Doctor of Ministry degree from Erskine Theological Seminary. Even though it is impossible to list all who have contributed to my spiritual growth, I am especially thankful to the late Dr. Rex Turner, Jr. (1945-2008), president of Amridge University until his death, who made available the opportunity for me to complete my B.A., M.S, M.Div., and D.Min. I also express my appreciation to Dr. Randall Bailey and Dr. Floyd Parker, professors at Faulkner University, for their efforts to prepare me toward earning my various degrees. Once you become a Christian, the battle line is drawn, and the devil, his demonic army, and all the evil spirits under his control try to destroy the trust and faith you have with God and Christ Jesus. The last thing the devil wants to see is you reconciling your connection back with God and Jesus Christ and His blood. As soon as you draw that battle line and become a new convert for Christ, you are in a fight between eternal life and eternal death. For that reason, Christians should spend the first three years after being converted understanding what the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is all about and what Christ did for them. This should be an intense study and they should live daily increasing their knowledge of what the Bible has to say about spiritual warfare. It is that important. Unfortunately, this is not always available. I challenge you, go to any university or Christian related Bible college and see for yourselves how much time is dedicated to understanding this subject.

Carl Ketcherside The Twisted Scriptures Preface A number of years ago, during an extended period of labor in Belfast, North Ireland, I regularly visited some of the many bookstalls in the city which displayed used volumes. While almost casually browsing one day, I spied a book of which I had frequent-ly heard but had never seen. It was titled Union, or, The Divided Church Made One. The author was John Harris, and the original purchaser had inscribed his name and the date of purchase on the flyleaf. The date was March 5, 1867. I purchased the book for a shilling, which was then valued at twelve cents in our coinage. It was a rare find and I read the book through that night, underlining statements which impressed me with their truth and factuality. I have since read the volume twice more and it is now quite marked up. One quotation I wish to share with you is found on page 21, where the author is writing about the cross of Jesus. His cross, like the ark in the wilderness, is the center around which his people are to encamp; so that they cannot separate into factions, or withdraw from each other, without retiring at the same time from the presence of the cross. As you read my own book you will be constantly aware that this is the point I am trying to make. Our relationship with the Father of mercies is created and maintained through faith in Jesus as the Son of God. It was the cross which established beyond doubt how far God was willing to go to end alienation and pride and reconcile us unto Himself.
