30 Warwick Street London W1B 5NH www.jll.com/hospitality EMEA Quarterly Newsletter – Q2 2014 Industry Trends • According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), demand for international tourism remained strong in the first four months of 2014. International tourism arrivals grew 5%, the same rate as full year 2013. Prospects for the current peak tourism season remain very positive with over 450 million tourists expected to travel abroad in the May-August 2014 period. • Destinations worldwide received 317 million international overnight visitors between January and April 2014, 14 million more than in the same period of 2013. This 5% growth consolidates the strong increase registered for 2013 and is well above the long-term trend projected by the UNWTO for the period of 2010-2020 (3.8%). • The strongest growth was seen in Asia and the Pacific and the Americas (both up 6%), followed closely by Europe and Africa (up 5%). By sub-region, Northern Europe, South and Mediterranean Europe, North Africa and South Asia (all up 8%) were the star performers. • In terms of tourism expenditure, growth continues to be strong from emerging markets, in particular China, the Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia and India. Furthermore, demand from advanced economies is strengthening as the global economic situation gradually improves, with encouraging growth posted for Italy, Australia, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden. • According to the UNWTO confidence index, prospects remain very positive for the period May- August 2014. Confidence has picked up, particularly among the private sector, and improved further in Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East. -

2020 Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa Front Page: Taj Cape Town Somerset Kilimani Nairobi 2 Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa 2020 Foreword Our 12th edition of the Hotel Chain Development Pipelines in Africa brings news of a continuing increase in the chains’ development activity in Africa. The pipeline now sits at 77,896 rooms in 408 hotels, up 3.6 per cent on 2019. Looking back to our first report on Africa’s hotel development pipeline in 2009, there were then just under 30,000 rooms, so today we’re not far off three times that! The growth of the chains’ presence and pipeline in Africa has been an incredibly positive story, and we are proud to be deeply involved with it – in addition to the research work carried out for this report, we have provided professional advice to several of the projects that are included in the data. However, I am writing this foreword (and you are probably reading it) at a time of unprecedented global upheaval, a complete reset. Our industry – and I mean travel and tourism in the widest sense – has been particularly badly affected by the COVID-19 disease. We in the hotel industry have been completely reset, to what we just don’t know yet, but to a state smaller in terms both of supply and demand than we were just a few months ago, that’s for certain. There’s a new game coming when this is all over, and no one yet has any idea what we will be playing with, nor what the rules will be. -

(Photo illustration: Annamarie Hudson) By Audrey Peters GLOBAL REPORT—The unique components of hotel brands are what draw guests to visit and return. In a series of brand profiles over the past six months, Hotel News Now has featured those distinctive atmospheres, design elements and other characteristics of brands aimed at catering to guest demographics. Here’s a look at some that have stood out. Canyon Ranch, a hotel and wellness brand, accommodates guests seeking a space to reset their minds and bodies. While the majority of guests range in age from their 30s to mid-40s, they are generally united in the goals of their stay. "Whether (for) weight loss, or just to reset mind, body and soul, (Canyon Ranch is) a place of tranquility,” said COO Tom Klein. “Some people call it a safe haven. … They’re coming for a really transformational experience."”" Langham Hospitality Group’s Cordis brand seeks to give guests a fulfilling experience through wellness programs, wine tastings and elite programming. Combining concepts of wellness and luxury, the brand hopes to attract a “new consumer […] looking for something more fulfilling than the average amenities” by showcasing indulgence and health, Langham CEO Bob Warman said. Travelodge, which has brands in both the U.S. and U.K., is focused on attracting leisure guests with locations that invite exploration. Travelodge hopes to be “the base camp for adventure” for guests that aren’t necessarily looking to stay in a hotel, but rather are seeking a place to stop and recharge before the next parts of their trips, said Keri Putera, VP of Travelodge brand operations at Travelodge U.S. -

SOFITEL OLYMPIC PARK, HOMEBUSH Construction of the new $45 million 5 star Sofitel Hotel located on Olympic Boulevard in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct had a key component to its success… a precast system solution in its entirety. The hotel includes 212 hotel rooms between levels 3-16 which are located above a four level podium. The builder, St Hilliers Contracting, centre to allow immediate access chose to adopt a full load-bearing for following trades.
