Spike land before time dinosaur

Continue Spike (also known as gentle giant spike, as he is called on the official website, and called by fans[1]) is a three-sided character in The Land Before Time and a supporting character in the land before time and television series. He is a Stegosaurus,[2] known as Spiketail in films and television series. He is best known for his laconic behavior; has only uttered a few words throughout the series' run, and given his great appetite. Spike was raised by the ducky protagonist's family, since his family was lost at the time of birth, and may have died. Close friends with his adoptive sister, Spike is usually listed in fifth place by the main characters, behind Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky and Petrie, but is sometimes listed in third place, behind Cera and ahead of Ducky. Despite being well received by critics of the film, and being a favorite of director during the production of the original The Land Before Time, the character's cultural impact was remarkably small. The character of Appetite Spike has a great appetite, and constantly eats plants in his sights. When Spike was still unhatched, his parents left his eggs in a nest surrounded by grass. After hatching, he quickly consumes grass. Often, food acts as motivation for Spike, such as in The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock, when the protagonists are crossing the canyon by jumping on the stone pillars. Spike is afraid to do so, until he notices some extensive bushes on the other side, on which he strongly jumps over and goes deep into them. Later, in The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze, Spike sniffs out the green food that the other protagonists and Mr. Thicknose discovered in Mysterious Beyond, and leads the hungry spike tails down to it. Often, other characters are placed in tight situations because of Spike's eating. In The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island, while the children are sailing on a log to travel from the island back to the mainland, Spike finds some leaves on a branch on the log, and struggles to reach them, despite Littlefoot's warning that this is causing the log to turn around. Also, in The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire, while the children are crossing the gorges in the canyon, Spike is interested in a yellow flower growing out of the vine, and chomps on it; accidentally bites through the vine and causes the children to swing into a cave in the middle of the cliff. In The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island, when Spike and others arrive at Big Water , he swallows some seawater that enters his mouth despite the salty taste of seawater. He drank seawater twice more in The Land Before Time IX: Journey to Big Water. The most notable feature of Speech Spike is being dumb among the main characters, as he almost never like his adoptive sister, Ducky says in The Land Before Time IV: Journey through the Mists he can actually talk when he feels like doing so. In the TV episode Through the Eyes of a Spiketail, in which many events are seen through Spike's perspective, and Spike's thoughts are heard aloud, spike chooses silence to hear the singing of green food before deciding what he wants to eat; he remarked that his friends don't hear the songs because they always talk. He also dislikes talking because he dislikes the excessive arguments his friends often encounter. However, in very important or dangerous times, he finds that his silence can be an obstacle, although it is not given why he did not choose to speak in these cases. The only time Spike actually spoke in the series was in The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure when Littlefoot and his friends learn what to play, Spike said I don't Know! and The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists, when Ducky is almost eaten by Dil, and he shouts her name (Duh... Duh... DUCKY!) and in The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze; When he shouted Mama! while drowning in hot water. He made it clear in other ways on other occasions. In The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses, he mutters to Petrie while he and Ducky are telling Littlefoot that they are unsure why they are mad at him; what he says sounds like yes. Uh-huh. Moreover, in the Finnish version of the original film, when he and others are exhausted from climbing a rocky hill, he says a single word; ruokaa, translated into English as food. Spike also sang for many songs from films and television series. He imitated Sharptooth speak in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island. Personality File:Land-before-time6- disneyscreencaps.com-5638.jpg Screenshot of Spike, reflecting his relaxed, relaxed and easy-going nature. Spike is generally very comfortable and comfortable. Although never talking, he is often connected to what his friends are doing. Along with explaining his silence, Spike reveals in his thoughts that he is as smart as his friends, and that he is quite observable; noticed the characteristics of everyone and everything around him almost immediately. He is also very confident and brave, although he admits to enjoying a sedantly lifestyle; Stay home and eat, than adventure with others, as he views most of their adventures as too dangerous, but out of loyalty he follows his friends none anyway. He also cared deeply about them, pushing himself into dangerous situations to save their lives. Don Bluth described him as a pure, simple, accommodated soul and want to please. Family Relationship File: Newborn Spike.jpg Ducky witnesses as her future foster-brother, Spike, blooms. Bloom. Photos in the Gallery Below show Spike eating on grass around his nest, seconds later. When Spike was still in his eggs, he was separated from his biological parents. He was adopted by Ducky as a brother, and was easily accepted by her parents and siblings as part of the family, despite the fact that most characters tend to express prejudice towards others who are not part of their species. As his father is rarely seen, and has never had a speaking role, his exact relationship with him is uncertain, but his mother, a prominent period character, is shown to be very devoted to him. She is shown to treat him equally with his own child, while still bearing in mind that he is a tail spike, and therefore has many different needs from swimming. Spike seems to get along with his siblings, but he remains closest to Ducky. However, their relationship was fractured in The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze, after his snoring (known as the Characters' Sleep Rumbling) kept Ducky awake at night, and after he ate lunch their mother packed her specially. Ducky consults Cera on how to express his anger, and gives Spike cold shoulders. Spike was depressed by this, until he met Tippy, a boy from the wandering Spike Tail herd who entered the Great Valley. After Spike spent more time with Tippy and the herd, and eventually migrated out of the valley during the cold time with them, Ducky saw what her actions had done , and go out after Spike. At the end of the film, when they reunite, Ducky vows never to let Spike snore the way of their relationship again. Spike often expresses concern for Ducky when she is unhappy, such as in The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire, when Ducky feels sorry for Petrie after Cera insults him, Spike asks if Ducky is hungry, before she explains what really bothers her. He also gives her gifts from your goodness; an example is in Search for the Sky Color Stones, when he is the first to find a sky-colored stone, and deliver it to Ducky (although she mistakenly tries to eat it). Friends Other protagonist File:Cera-202.png Cera annoyed considering Spike's eating in the song Family, from The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze. Cera is often irritated by Spike's eating habits, and the problems they often cause, as in The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire, when Spike eats a flower on the vine that the gang is using to cross the canyon, and bites through the vine, sending them swinging into a cave. Cera angrily tells him not to do such a thing again. Cera notes with contempt as Spike eats while singing in the song Family from The Land Time VIII: The Big Freeze, and in the television episode The Canyon of Shiny Stones; when Cera wants to make up for Tria's loss of shiny football, and Petrie Petrie Carrying tons of her treesweets, she remarks that Spike will eat them all before they get with her. Spike occasionally appeared neutral to Cera's comments, or upset by them, as in the case of the seventh film, he calmly shrugged off her order, and in the episode above, he nodded in response to Cera's statement, but frowned upon the realt that it was a biting remark. Cera is also annoyed with Spike's off-course habits in their adventures in Through the Eyes of a Spiketail. At the same time, each of them is shown to be interested in each other during difficult times, as when Spike is almost done by the present in The Star Day Celebration episode, and the vine others use to pull him to safety snaps, Cera hastily grabs a long stick to perform the task with. Spike helped Cera on other occasions, as in The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island, when Cera was ejed from the log by the sharp swimming fish, and swam back, Spike and Littlefoot helped her get up again. The two have also collaborated on missions, such as in The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure, when the two of them push a rock over Papa Sharptooth's head while he and his wife are attacking the Great Valley in search of Chomper. Spike and Petrie seem to get along, and Petrie often tries to help or encourage Spike whenever he's in trouble or reluctant to do something. In The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock, when Spike is afraid to jump on the pillars in the canyon, Petrie urges him, telling him that it will be all right. Later, when Spike was trapped in a hole in the hollow trunk on the same canyon, and Allosaurus pursued the children who began near them, Petrie and Littlefoot together tried to help him get free in time. File:Chomper - Tv.jpg Chomper covers Spike's eyes with mud, letting him lean on his nose alone while searching for Ducky, in The Lonely Journey. Spike seems to have good relations with Littlefoot, Ruby and Chomper. Ruby seems to understand Spike almost as well as Ducky, saying at the end of the episode Through the Eyes of a Spiketail that she sometimes wants her to be more like him. Chomper voluntarily teaches Spike to use sniffer (Chomper's affectionate term for his nose) to track things, just like he does with himself, in The Lonely Journey. Littlefoot appears to be the most apology, besides Ducky, that Spike has departed in The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze, and explains to others with mama swimmer's help that Spike is still family to them because of their strong friendship with him, regardless of his differences. Ducky, Spike & Tippy.jpg Spike (centre) with her sister Ducky (left) and Tippy. Spike quickly bees Tippy, a Spiketail boy a herd wanders, as the herd arrives in the Great Valley in The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze. Tippy's mother invites Spike to meet the rest of the herd, and in doing so, Spike immediately equips them, and begins to spend most of her time with them. When the herd had to leave the Great Valley, due to a lack of food due to cold weather (winter), the herd invited Spike to join them, although he only accepted when Ducky angrily told him. In the TV episode The Forbidden Friendship, when Tippy and his herd return to the Great Valley, the leader of the herd quarrels with Mr. Threehorn, and each side is estranged from each other, but Spike and Tippy continue to play together in secret. Character development file:Images; The spike.jpg spikes, as he appears in the following sections. Spike's character is inspired by Don Bluth's pet chowhound, Cubby. [3] Although Bluth mentioned in an interview in 1990 that he wasn't really interested in the film, which he thought was too slow,[4] he did say that he liked the character spike; describes him as a pure, simple, accommodated soul, and a desire to please. [3] Modified in Template:Film, Spike's design was modified; he no longer has any small spines on his tail and has underdeveloped ridges along his back. This is probably to make him easier for the animators to draw, but, compared to the Cera character's modifications, Spike is not drastic. In the drama, he was modified again so that there was no horizontal line on his belly in many scenes. This again is probably to make him easier for the cartoons to draw, as dramas often have lower budgets than movies. Partly from a slight color change, Spike is like most of the characters in the series drawn less detail and there is a drastic change in his face, with his muzzle being thinner and longer (although there are scenes where he is drawn to his designs from the films). As the voice of In the Original Land Before Time, Spike laughed once; it was provided by Joe Ranft. Despite having very few lines, Spike has been voiced by from Template:Film to date, with the exception of Template:Film, in which the character's voice is said to be provided by . In the episode Land Before Time Through the Eyes of a Spiketail, Paulsen uses a deep voice when speaking the character's thoughts. The Washington Post's Hal Hinson described Spike as blobby and indifferent in his review of The Land Before Time. [5] British journalist MJ Simpson, in his review on The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure, considered the character to be the dinosaur equivalent of a 'fat child'. [6] In his review of the fourth film, The Land Before Time IV: through the Mists, Bonnie Sayers of Epinion.com said she was pleased with the scene Spike unexpectedly called for when she was almost eaten by Dil. [7] On Digitally Obsessed.com, Dale Dobson said the plot in The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze revolves around Spike choosing between his family and the wandering Stegasaurus, and making the issues around family and diversity understandable. [8] Brian Webster of the Apollo Movie Guide said of that storyline in The Big Freeze that he's fine with Spike effectively having his cake and eating it too, as he doesn't accept the idea of having cartoon characters teach young children about tougher life lessons, namely those related to family breakups , multicultural adoption and family mixing. Nor does he believe that most parents will. [9] Cultural Influence File:Gentle Giant Spike.jpg Spike's personal logo on the official Land Before Time website, nicknamed in his real world, Gentle Giant Spike. Although very popular with critics and fans of the series, spike characters have had no very noticeable influence on culture. At the same time, fans often use the nickname given to Spike on Land Before Time's official website, Gentle Giant Spike, when referencing the character. Goods The most notable impact of the character is the goods. To promote The Land Before Time when it first hit theaters in 1988, Amblin Entertainment, in an alliance with Pizza Hut, released handpuppets of Spike, along with Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky and Petrie. [10] Many other toys and goods related to the character, including luxury dolls,[11][12][13][14] bean bags,[15] action figures,[16] and others[17] have been released. Spike is the protagonist on the front cover of the DVD Through the Eyes of a Spiketail, as the DVD contains episodes of the same name, among others. Media references The original protagonists (Littlefoot, Cera, Ducky, Petrie, and Spike) are referenced entirely in Question 43 of Test 6: Animation, in your Test-Prep IQ with Essentials of Film, in which the question relates to which character is not a dinosaur. [18] They were referenced together again in Throwback Trivia in The Good Book for Great Times by Connor Pritchard and Dominic Russo. [19] Gallery Trivia Spike has so far appeared in all the series, and all are just one episode of the television series. He does not appear in The Great Egg Adventure, because he is in muddy lakes, along with Cera and Ruby. Mud lakes play no role in the story. Spike was incorrectly referred to as Ankylosaurus in the 1989 book Geological Society, by the Canadian Geological Association. [20] This is most likely due to the protagonists being made up of the majority of The Chalk dinosaurs from North America, however this principal may not be the case because Littlefoot was called Brachiosaurus, rather than A that closely an Apatosaurus.
