TMG’s track record in EV technology dates back to 2007 when it was announced that F1 would use Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems from 2009.

TMG created a dedicated 80-person KERS development team with a focus on a battery KERS solution, following a thorough evaluation of all options.

The TOYOTA F1 KERS was rolled out in 2009 with a track test to prove the performance and reliability of the system.

In 2009, the EV Technology Centre in Cologne was founded to provide development and integration of electric powertrains for motorsport and road-going vehicles.

Since then, the first EVs have rolled out of the TMG factory with an on-going and continuous development of the services and technology offered at the EV Technology Centre.

In 2011, TMG set a new lap record for an EV car at the legendary 20.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit with its TMG EV P001.

TMG broke its own record just one year later as the TMG EV P002 improved the previous mark by over 25 seconds. It was the second record-breaker of the year for TMG’s electric powertrain as the team set a new record at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado, USA in August 2012.

Battery-to-Battery Charging Concept • Off-board charger consists of power electronics and controls to perform DC charging of the car and of an energy storage system. • The system is mounted on a van and is therefore completely mobile. • Recharging of the energy storage system can be done wherever a standard power supply is available. • The system will allow for full charging of the energy storage from the grid in about 7 hours. • The van brings the off-Grid DC Quick Charger to the that shall be charged. This can be in any remote location without access to the right infrastructure. • DC car charging is designed for 25kW DC charging power to be transmitted. • A race car with 40 kWh battery capacity will be fully charged in about 1 ½ hours. • Any standard EV can get range recovery within a few minutes charging. • Devices and protocols follow CHAdeMO standards. • The same safety standards apply as for the vehicle traction battery system and electrical design.
