Our senses are constantly stimulated from every direction to the point that a simple moment of quiet stillness seems impossible for some of us. This continuous agitation hinders us from getting the most out of each moment, subtracting from the quality of our prayers and our ability to remember Allah. We all know that we need more presence in prayer, more control over our wandering minds and desires. But what exactly can we do achieve this? How can we become more mindful in all aspects of our lives, spiritual and temporal? That is where the practice of exercising mindfulness, in the Islamic context of muraqabah, can help train our minds to become more disciplined and can thereby enhance our regular worship and daily activities. -
Religious Minorities in Pakistan
Abdul Majid* RELIGIOUS MINORITIES IN PAKISTAN Abstract The Constitution describes Pakistan as an “Islamic State”. It is a predominately Muslim State but there are several non-Muslims groups living here as citizens. Pakistan’s Constitution stands for equality of all citizens irrespective of religion, caste, region, tribe language and gender. Islam the state religion of Pakistan stands for respect and toleration for all religions. This paper examines the population and constitutional position of religious minorities in Pakistan. It also provides a general picture of major religious communities the Hindus, the Christians and the Sikhs. The paper also explains the Ahmadya community was declared a minority in September 1947. Despite the handicap of small population, Pakistan’s religious minorities have freedom to practice their religion and pursue their cultural heritage. Key Words: All India Muslim League, PPP, 1973 constitution, Lahore resolution, Jammat-e-Islami, Makkah, Pakistan Hindus Welfare Association Introduction All resolutions of the All India Muslim League since 1940 made categorical commitments for granting religious and cultural freedom to all religious minorities. In Pakistan Minority community is able to assert that it is completely safe. For all those who are guided by reason and humankind’s becoming a modern, civilized and responsible state. The ethnic communities and diverse cultures included Punjabi, Baloch, Sindhi, Seraiki and similarly beside Islam, the believers of Hindu, Sikh, Christian and others religious were also living in Pakistan. The cultural diversity of the country is under threat and religious minorities and various ethnic communities are being denied rights and Identity. Pakistan was established in August 1947 as a homeland for the Muslims of British India. -

IBA RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN INITIATIVE (RCI)/Social Internship RCI Objective The ‘esposile Citize iitiative ‘CI/Soial Itership provides a opportuit for eah IBA student to gain practical hands-on experience in community service. This exposure helps students in developing a sense of deep responsibility & commitment, and serves the purpose of creating awareness about the conditions/needs of the various segments of our society/community in which they spend their entire adult life. The idea is to provide students a platform to serve the community and utilize their knowledge/skills for the betterment of marginalized strata of society. Eligibility Undergraduate students of all programs (BBA/BS) are eligible to carry out their Responsible Citizen Initiative (RCI)/Social Internships any time between their 2nd semester and 7th semester of undergrad study. This internship will not be a substitute for the regular work/corporate internship and should preferably be completed before the start of the fourth year of studies (i.e. enrollment in 7th semester). Students going for semester exchange programs OR semester breaks (for some genuine reasons) can complete their RCI/Social Internship any time during their four year period of studies, after intimating the Career Development Centre of the appropriate reason via email at [email protected]. Selection of Organizations During RCI/Social Internship, students are required to work on various social welfare projects with recognized and registered NGOs/organizations/social enterprises having a demonstrated track record. A list of some of the recognized organizations (presented at the end of this document) can be referred to for the purpose. However, please note that the CDC has shortlisted these organizations based on its internal criteria. -

Country Policy and Information Note Pakistan: Christians and Christian converts Version 4.0 February 2021 Preface Purpose This note provides country of origin information (COI) and analysis of COI for use by Home Office decision makers handling particular types of protection and human rights claims (as set out in the Introduction section). It is not intended to be an exhaustive survey of a particular subject or theme. It is split into two main sections: (1) analysis and assessment of COI and other evidence; and (2) COI. These are explained in more detail below. Assessment This section analyses the evidence relevant to this note – i.e. the COI section; refugee/human rights laws and policies; and applicable caselaw – by describing this and its inter-relationships, and provides an assessment of, in general, whether one or more of the following applies: x A person is reasonably likely to face a real risk of persecution or serious harm x The general humanitarian situation is so severe as to breach Article 15(b) of European Council Directive 2004/83/EC (the Qualification Directive) / Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights as transposed in paragraph 339C and 339CA(iii) of the Immigration Rules x The security situation presents a real risk to a civilian’s life or person such that it would breach Article 15(c) of the Qualification Directive as transposed in paragraph 339C and 339CA(iv) of the Immigration Rules x A person is able to obtain protection from the state (or quasi state bodies) x A person is reasonably able to relocate within a country or territory x A claim is likely to justify granting asylum, humanitarian protection or other form of leave, and x If a claim is refused, it is likely or unlikely to be certifiable as ‘clearly unfounded’ under section 94 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002. -

Volume 2 Main Report contains the Master Plan for rehabilitation and reconstruction in Muzaffarabad city, Pakistan. Volume 3 Sector Report contains the details of existing conditions, issues to overcome, and proposals for future reconstruction by sector. Final Report II deals with the results and outcomes on the Urgent Rehabilitation Projects which were prioritized and implemented in parallel with master plan formulation work under the supervision of JICA Study Team. JICA selected and dispatched the Study Team headed by Mr. Ichiro Kobayashi of Pacet, consisted of Pacet and Nippon Koei, to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from February 2006 to August 2006. JICA set up an Advisory Committee chaired by Dr. Kazuo Konagai from the University of Tokyo, which examined the study from the specialist and technical points of view. The Study Team held discussions with the officials concerned of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and conducted the Study in collaboration with the Pakistani counterparts. -

Pakistan Connection Diasporas @ BBC World Service Audience Research Report Authors: Marie Gillespie, Sadaf Rivzi, Matilda Andersson, Pippa Virdee, Lucy Michael, Sophie West A BBC World Service / Open University Research Partnership 1 Foreword What does a shop owner in Bradford have in common with a graduate from Princeton USA, a construction worker in Bahrain and a banker in the City of London? All are users of the bbcurdu.com website, and all are part of the global Pakistani diaspora. The term diaspora is used to describe the global dispersion of migrant groups of various kinds. Diasporas are of growing economic, political and cultural significance. In a world where migration, geopolitical dynamics, communication technologies and transport links are continually changing, it is clear that culture and geography no longer map neatly onto one another. Understanding diaspora groups inside and outside its base at Bush House, London, is ever more important for the BBC World Service, too. Diaspora audiences are increasingly influencing the way the BBC conceives and delivers output. For example, over 60% of the weekly users of bbcurdu.com are accessing the site from outside the subcontinent, and this proportion is rising. The same trend has been observed for other BBC language websites. (See BBC World Agenda, September 2008.) The research presented here is based on a unique partnership between BBC World Service Marketing Communication and Audiences (MC&A) and The Open University. The Church OF PAKISTAN Introduction The Anglican Communion consists of 40 autonomous churches, also known as provinces around the world. It encompasses over 165 countries. This is a short introduction to The Church of Pakistan. More information about The Anglican Communion and each of the Member Churches can be found at anglicancommunion.org. Important Information Short History The Church of Pakistan is the result of the union of four denominations: Anglican, Methodist, Lutheran and Presbyterian (Scottish), which took place in 1970. The United Presbyterian Church which had been involved in the negotiations did not join. Initially there were four dioceses in the Church of Pakistan, i.e. Karachi, Multan, Lahore and Sialkot, but in 1980, through a special resolution and for better ministerial work, four new dioceses were created: Hyderabad, Raiwind, Faisalabad and Peshawar. There are eight active diocesan bishops with an additional bishop for the Gulf Ministries. This appointment was made to take care of the pastoral and worship needs of Urdu-speaking workers in the Gulf. There is a presiding bishop for the Church of Pakistan who is known as the moderator and has responsibility for a three-year term.
