Duke University Center for the Study of the Public Domain through Photofocus While most may rattle off the names of at least a dozen major comic book characters (probably including their own favorite superheroes), many are unaware of all the stars who have made appearances in some memorable comic book story lines. Here are 9 celebrities who made comic-book cameos. 1. Anderson Cooper Source: Marvel Famous CNN host has appeared (as himself) in the release of the black widow series. According to series writer Nathan Edmondson told Marvel, Cooper is reportedly questioning investigative news reports on his show about the character and her actions. The report will act as a catalyst for a major event in the Journey of the Black Widow. As Edmondson explained: It's Anderson doing what he does best: looking for truth and reporting on events. We imagine that in the world of the Black Widow, as in many other Avengers, what she does cannot be ignored by the media. 2. Barack Obama Source: Marvel When Barack Obama beat John McCain in the 2008 presidential election, Marvel decided to bank off the news by releasing this politically driven storyline, just in time for the 2009 inauguration. In history, the president is now ina inauguration when the second Obama suddenly appears. When Secret Service agents react with nothing but confusion, Peter Parker - who was there, taking pictures for The Daily Bugle - begins questioning both men. When the impostor Obama does not remember his middle name, he turns into the villain Of Chameleon, leading to a short fight before eventually being captured and handed over to the police. Obama expresses his gratitude to Spider-Man, admitting to him that he has always been a big fan. 3. KISS Source: Marvel In that probably one of the strangest celebrities involved in comic book plot lines ever, the rock band made an appearance about in the release of Howard's 12 Duck 27-issue run. In this matter, Howard goes on a trip to Cleveland in an attempt to get rid of the nightmares that haunt him. On the way there, he meets Winda, a girl who shows that she is on her way to get the exorcism imposed on her by her parents. The two become friends but end up getting into an altercation on a bus that lands both of them in jail. The prison doctor then performs an exorcism on Winda himself. By everyone's shock, the thoughts that form during the procedure take the form of KISS members. Cameo spawned an entire SERIES of KISS. But this isn't the only time the band has appeared in a comic book. Members also popped up in the four-part Archie series in 2011. 4. Muhammad Ali Source: DC Comics In one of Superman's adventures, a man known as the greatest boxer in the history of problem man of steel in a regular boxing match. The epic battle evokes quite a turnout, as with real celebrities and other fictional figures appearing in the audience. Only after Ali knocks out Superman and wins the match, does the rest of the world know that it was all part of a trick to save the planet from an alien invasion. When the scheme is over, the two men share their feelings of respect, with Ali proclaiming them both the greatest world champions. 5. Eminem Source: The Marvel rapper has made a point of being honest and laying it all on the line when it comes to his career and life story. But many fans may still not be aware of this appearance in The Punisher, in which Frank Castle is hired to protect the artist from Barracuda. After Castle kills most of Eminem's team in a misunderstanding, the artist becomes convinced that Barracuda is his true ally and does not make it easy for Castle to do his job, giving him an attitude around the subject and eventually knocking him out. The scuffle leads Barracud to capture them both. The release ends with Eminem apologizing to Castle, and they end up winning over the real villain. 6. Charles Barkley Source: Dark Horse Comics is now a retired professional basketball player made a one-time appearance in Dark Horse Comic, opposite Gozilla. In this matter, Barkley looks - for inexplicable reasons - the same size as a giant beast, and the two end up attending a basketball game against each other in New Jersey. History shows Barkley pulling out every trick in the book to beat Godzilla in the game. The two end on good terms, with the sports star giving his opponent some tips on how to improve his game and give him a pair of (very big) Nike sneakers. 7. Tim Gunn Source: Marvel Most know fashion expert for his contributions to Project Runaway and his famous phrase: Make it work! But it turns out that he also helped save the day in the release of the Iron Man crossover. In an installment, called Models Inc., the fashion designer found murdered at New York Fashion Week. Millie Model was soon pinned as the prime suspect, and several other Marvel characters like Mary Jane Watson and Hellcat, the team to prove their innocence. But when the killer begins to send killers to kill those who are investigating, Gunn must punish the famous Armor Ironman for protection. 8. Actors Choir Source: Archie Comics In Four Parts History in The Comics Archie, Archie and the rest of the Riverdale crew get to meet the entire gang from William McKinley High School. Worlds crossover thanks to Dilton Doiley's Device. Both groups Figure out how to get home and get back to normal, but not before a few favorite characters collide. Veronica eventually becomes Kurt's best friend. Meanwhile, when Josie Riverdale and the Pussycats heard Mercedes Jones and her amazing voice, they set out to recruit her for the band. Also, Sue Sylvester ends up squaring off against Jughead. 9. Stephen Colbert Source: Marvel Former Colbert Report host and current host of The Late Show is known as eccentric, and one of his most memorable stunts occurred in 2008 when he decided to run for president.
