  • Headline of the Month: Headline of the Month
Headline of the Month: Legislators and Voters Alike Prepare For Midterm Elections This November By Sal DiMaggio It’s November and you know what that means. Midterms! No, no, not the tests. Don’t worry, those aren’t until January. But the midterm elections are important, and here’s why: The midterm elections are held every four years, right in the middle of a presidential term. Every member of the U.S. House of Representatives is up for reelection, as their terms are two years each, as well as 35 Senators, whose terms are six years. Some states also have their elections for governors during the midterms. Currently, the Republicans (R; GOP) have a 235-193 lead in the House, as well as a slight majority in the Senate, 51-49. They are hoping that they can keep this majority for the next two years. The Democrats (D), on the other hand, are looking to topple this control. These are the outcomes of both of those results: If the Republicans remain in power, Congress will most likely still be able to work with President Trump, who is also a Republican. This will result in many things on the Republican agenda to be accomplished. The Republicans aim to crack down on illegal immigration and to lower taxes in the next few years to come. Along with this, they plan to protect gun rights and denuclearize the Korean Peninsula. If the Democrats gain control, Congress and the president will often clash, as they will disagree on most issues, and few of the things on Trump’s to-do list will get done.

  • Merchant of Venice’,Tower of Love and Narrow ‘Hellfir
The Hot Chicks of Rock The adrenaline rush of Super Bowl week has started to kick in and it is starting to feel like I’m on a Benzedrine overload. Late night and early morning spent reading the re-writes of the previous days blurbs that all blend together to the point that the only thing I remember is something in I read stating that Bill Belichick will murder Tom Coughlin. Whatever your feelings are on football, it is still a great excuse to throw a party. As far as Super Bowl Parties go, it is tough to top the PVD Social Club’s bill of a matinee punk rock headlined by iconic stalwarts of loud hard and fast, the Hudson Falcons and Boston’s The Ducky Boys (Record Release Party for Chasing the Ghost). The bill is also features Pinkerton Thugs, Drunk Robb and The Shots, and Reason to Fight. The show is all ages and will not interfere with watching the game because it starts at 2PM– so if you are like me, set an alarm, or two. Not only is this the perfect way to release some pre-show aggression but you can stay or come for the game, which will be shown on huge projection screens throughout the entire club. At halftime, there will be a burlesque show so you have something more enticing than watching a washed up Madonna and there will be complementary appetizers served. Seriously, Madonna playing the Super Bowl, what diehard football fan wants to see that? Speaking of burlesque, with Valentine’s Day around that corner, it is time for our 5th annual Hot Women in Local Rock to celebrate this special day, well for single males and women in relationships.

Outside: The Creation of a Liminoid Space as a Metaphor for Pre-Millennial Society Author: Nicholas P. Greco, B.A. (University of Ottawa) Supervisor: Dr Susan Fast Number of Pages: xi, 166. 111 ABSTRACT The majority of writings on David Bowie have focussed on his early work. Many feel that Bowie's early work has much merit, as has been made clear by the vast pool of both academic and popular writings regarding his work in the early 1970s, his collaborations with Brian Eno in the late 1970s, and his most commercially accepted works in the early 1980s. However, much of the academic writing on Bowie has chosen to focus only on these works and ignores his more recent material. This thesis contributes to the body of knowledge regarding the more recent work of David Bowie. In 1995, Bowie released the album 1. Outside. Through its music and lyrics, album art, accompanying narrative, music video and live performance, Bowie presents a world of the absurd and violent. He engages with the notions of murder as art, body modification as ritual, and the state of society at the end of the twentieth century.
