Apple today shared a “secret” about Adele’s ultra-popular song “Hello”: Producer Greg Kurstin used his Apple gear and the Logic Pro X app to produce the song, as well as a few others, as shared in a new article posted today on Apple’s microsite dedicated to the software. The key: his ability as an instrumentalist, deep understanding of music and song structure, and – looking at the technical part of the production process – using his mobile studio kit: a MacBook Pro, Apple’s Logic Pro X software, and third-party app Apogee Quartet. As he details in the interview, his comfort with the technical side of producing came from a strictly musical urge: “I was really into the music and the gear and playing,” he says. “I’m a musician at heart. So at first I didn’t really pay attention to technology.” After an audio engineer showed him Logic Pro, everything changed: “Learning how to use Logic was a big breakthrough,” he says. “For the first time, I was independent of having people recording for me.” The post also gives an inside look at the production process of Adele’s “Hello”: In the studio, Kurstin and Adele kept it simple. “Most of the time, it was just jamming in the room really, with me at a piano,” says Kurstin. “We were simply playing with ideas, looking for some chords and a vibe. But its path to becoming a ubiquitous hit was not a straight one. “I really didn’t expect that song at all,” says Kurstin. “I was in a daze, probably a little jet-lagged, trying out a bunch of ideas on the MIDI piano in the control room. Then we moved out to the grand piano in the live room, and I just started playing chords.” The chords were promising, and Kurstin and Adele were able to write most of the song that day. But they couldn’t finish it. “We tried different choruses, but we didn’t quite nail it,” he says. “And I didn’t know if we ever would. "We never planned to be a band. We were friends first and we just love being together," says lead singer Christian Zucconi. "Grouplove grew organically from that love." Their debut album, with the tongue-in-cheek title Never Trust a Happy Song, is quickly spreading the love, too. Their sweet and savory mix of jangly, upbeat melodies, Zucconi's anguished howl and keyboardist Hannah Hooper's coquettish backup vocals have been making the rounds in indie rock circles and on the charts. Joyful, noisy single Colours peaked at No. 12 on USA TODAY's alternative chart. Another track, Tongue Tied, lassoed the new iPod Touch commercial, which ran during the Grammy nominations concert and has continued since Thanksgiving. Add Grouplove's lock as the opening band for Young the Giant's tour in March and April, and it's no wonder they're so lovey-dovey. Happy accidents: Zucconi wasn't always this upbeat. "Before Grouplove, I was in other bands, but the timing never seemed right," he says. "I'd wake up every day depressed, I spent so many years miserable doing music. Tujuan dari studi ini dibagi menjadi dua. Pertama, studi ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi fitur-fitur semantik diantaranya hiperbola, personifikasi, dan simile yang ditemukan pada lirik-lirik lagu di album Torches dari band Foster the People. Kedua, studi ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan makna kata dari fitur-fitur semantik diantaranya hiperbola, personifikasi, and simile yang digunakan di dalam lirik-lirik lagu tersebut. Metode yang digunakan untk memilih data pada studi ini adalah metode obervasi dan teknik pengambilan catatan. Studi ini menganalisis secara kualitatif berdasarkan teori figuratif dari Perrine (2005) dan teori makna kata dari Geoffrey Leech (1974). Hasil analisis dalam studi ini menunjukkan bahwa lirik-lirik lagu di album Torches mengandung fitur-fitur semantik diantaranya hiperbola, personifikasi, dan simile. Makna kata diantaranya makna konseptual, stylistik, and afektif juga dipresentasikan di dalam fitur-fitur semantik tersebut. Fitur-fitur semantik dan makna kata tersebut digunakan oleh penulis lagu dengan tujuan untuk menghibur pendengar dari lagu-lagu tersebut. Kata kunci: Lirik lagu, fitur-fitur semantik, makna kata. 1. This Christmas season will be more cheerful for literally millions of people due to the efforts of World Vision staff working alongside our partners and with the support of our donors. Dave and Dana Dornsife are the primary focus of a comprehensive review of all the recent big bets in philanthropy in the December 20th issue of Forbes. A panel of 10 independent judges was convened by Forbes and Brigespan to evaluate nearly 60 gifts of $25 million or more. The Dornsifes recent gift to World Vision of $40 million for World Vision's Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Program not only was ranked in the Top 5, but Forbes used the Dornsife's as the focal point to explain how their gift excelled in each of the six criteria used by the panel to determine the gifts most likely to have the highest social impact and move the needle in changing the world. The panel's criteria for both degree of realism and role of philanthropy to move the needle were met by World Vision's successful track record of increasing the number of water beneficiaries by 10-fold since 2015 as well as our new commitment, backed-up with a comprehensive business plan, to scale-up to reach one new person with clean water every 10 seconds by 2020.
