Food for Children and Teens Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne Counties Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS) has increased existing food assistance programs and added new ones (see below) to assist families with children with food during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you need help with food, you may apply for these benefits online. If you don’t already have a MiBridges account, you’ll have to create one first online. DHHS’s client portal web site: Michigan.gov/MIBridges. If you need help resetting your MI Bridges password/username or other technical assistance while using the MIBridges web site to apply for benefits or manage your case, call the Help Desk at 844-799-9876 or read the FAQs by clicking here. The Help Desk is open Monday through Friday from 8:00AM-7:00PM. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) In response to the coronavirus pandemic, as of March 27, Michigan increased all SNAP recipients to the maximum benefit amount and waived the federal work requirement for able-bodied adults without dependents who receive SNAP. See a full list of what you can and cannot buy with your EBT/Bridge Card at the web site below: www.fns.usda.gov/snap/eligible-food-items Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) The Pandemic EBT Program (P-EBT) provides supplemental food benefits for families whose children qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. Families with children ages 5-18 who are enrolled in the Michigan Department of Education program that provides free and reduced-price school meals to students are eligible for this benefit. The program paid $193.80 per eligible student per month for the months of March and April and will pay another $182.40 per student to cover May and June. Applying for Free and Reduced-Price School Meal Benefits Many school districts are continuing to accept applications for Free and Reduced-Price School Meal benefits until June and provide a printable application online. If you apply soon and your benefit eligibility status changes to free or reduced, you will be eligible for Pandemic EBT Benefits. Contact your school district for more information or to apply. Food for Children and Teens Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne Counties Unanticipated School Closure Summer Food Service Program. The Michigan Department of Education is providing meals for children during the coronavirus- related school closures under this program. Free meals are now available at certain locations for pick-up, which allows people to maintain social distancing in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Eligibility Requirements: All children 18 and younger are eligible for free meals, plus students with disabilities who are 18-26 years old and have an active Individual Education Program (IEP). How to Access: Look up food service program sites online. Click on an icon on the interactive map to see the distribution site’s address and times and dates of service. Program End Date: The free meals will be available for the duration of closures of the scheduled K-12 school year. The YMCA is offering grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches for pick-up on Fridays to youth up to age 18 and young adults with special needs up to age 26 at all 17 sites in the tri-county area to ensure families will have food for their children for the weekend. Children do not have to be present. They are going on the honor system when they tell them they have a child, 18 years or younger, that they will be taking the meals to. They can serve breakfast and lunch at the same time. Parents/Children can take up to 4 days’ worth of meals. Meals can be served directly from the delivery truck, so families do not need to enter the YMCA. ATAP is anticipating on delivering 7 meals, one day a week, directly to your home (or a remote location). If you are interested in this service, please complete an online form by clicking here. Children do not have to be enrolled in Avondale School District to receive meals. Children do not need to be present. (11AM-1PM pick-up is available at both locations; *4-6PM pick-up is only available at Anderson Middle School.) On Mondays and Wednesdays, families will pick up two days’ worth of meals; on Fridays, families will pick up three days’ worth of meals. Both meals will be available during both time slots; there is no need to come twice. Families will take both meals per child at the same time. Meals will be distributed in a grab-and-go style pick up. Each child will get multiple days of meals. Children do not need to be enrolled in Birmingham Public Schools to receive meals; all children welcome. Children do not need to be present.
