D 58, 014014 (1998) and 71, 094013 (2005), we determined non-perturbative D0, + ∗+ + + D , D , Ds , and Λc fragmentation functions, both at leading and next-to-leading order in the MS factorization scheme, by fitting e+e− data taken by the OPAL Collaboration at CERN LEP1. The starting points for the evolution in the factorization scale µ were taken to be µ0 = 2mQ, where Q = c, b. For the reader’s convenience, in this Addendum, we repeat this analysis for µ0 = mQ, where the flavor thresholds of modern sets of parton density functions are located.

  • Charmed Eloquence: Lhéritier's Representation of Female Literary
Charmed Eloquence: Lhéritier’s Representation of Female Literary Creativity in Late Seventeenth-Century France by Allison Stedman In 1690 when Marie-Catherine le Jumel de Barneville, comtesse d'Aulnoy decided to interpolate a fairy tale, "L'île de la félicité," into her first historical novel, L'histoire d'Hypolite, comte de Duglas, she did more than publish the first literary fairy tale of the French tradition.1 Hypolite not only provided a framework for introducing the fairy tale as a literary genre; it also launched a new hybrid publication strategy that would soon sweep printing houses all over Paris. This unprecedented literary trend—which I have chosen to call the novel/fairy-tale hybrid—involved the combination of fairy tales and novels by means of interpolation, framing, layering or juxtaposition. More than thirteen authors developed the genre between 1690 and 1715, and they produced a total of twenty-seven original works, sometimes at the rapid rate of two to three per year.2 In the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, novel/fairy-tale hybrids were incredibly popular, frequently reprinted and widely circulated, with translations of some appearing as far away as England, Spain and Czecesolvakia.3 D'Aulnoy's Histoire d'Hypolite, for example, achieved more editions over the course of the eighteenth century than any other seventeenth-century literary work, with the exception of La Princesse de Clèves.4 In fact, the genre was so popular that it even experienced a brief revival between 1747 and 1759 when six new examples appeared. During the final decades of the eighteenth century, however, anthologists began pillaging the original editions of these works.

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Bunkhouse Boys by Marie Piper Review: Bunkhouse Boys by Marie Piper. Kenny and Blue, two hands at the Tate Ranch, find distraction in each other from sleepless nights and days filled with hard work. Keeping their relationship a secret might be essential, but with their growing need for each other, it sure won’t be easy. Review. This was a very entertaining short story to read. Kenny and Blue are working in a ranch. In the nights Kenny is having trouble sleeping and Blue is looking for ways to release his increasing needs. Both men are willing to help each other but to make it work, they need to keep it as secret as they can. This was a very nice, fast and easy to read story. I enjoyed the circumstances they were into. I guess sharing their sleeping place with other guys is not ideal for a new relationship, but it was interesting see the way they try to figure things out. It was very short to have a complex plot, but I think the story was interesting enough. It got my attention the whole time. I wouldn’t consider it particularly romantic, but the moments the main characters had together were very exciting, especially the one near the end of the book. The characters weren’t too developed, but I guess that had more to do with the length of the book, and yet it was easy to see they were very different in some aspects. In general it was very nice book to read, it was well written and fun.

Saints, Seers, and Sorceresses: Femininity and the Spiritual Supernatural in Contemporary U.S. Film and Television by Megan E. Biddinger A dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Communication) in The University of Michigan 2012 Doctoral Committee: Professor Susan J. Douglas, Chair Professor Gerald P. Scannell Associate Professor Amanda D. Lotz Associate Professor Bambi L. Haggins, Arizona State University © Megan E. Biddinger 2012 To My Family, With Love and Gratitude ii Acknowledgments Of all of the many things I have to be grateful for right now, the opportunity to take this space to thank the many, many people who have helped me through this process is at the top of the list. For years, I have kept a running list of people who have made me a better scholar and a better human being. At times when this process has been difficult, that list and the act of adding to it have served as powerful reminders of my good fortune. Looking at that list now I see an embarrassment of human riches. I am so grateful for the vast amounts and many kinds of support, encouragement, intellectual stimulation, camaraderie, and love I have received. I want to first thank my advisor and my committee without whom this project would have been impossible. First, I was incredibly fortunate to have Susan Douglas as an advisor and chair. She has been patient but persistent with me from the very beginning and my work is so much the better for learning from her. Her work inspired me to pursue my own investigations into gender, media, and culture and it has been an honor to be her student.

  • ABSTRACT the Women of Supernatural: More Than
ABSTRACT The Women of Supernatural: More than Stereotypes Miranda B. Leddy, M.A. Mentor: Mia Moody-Ramirez, Ph.D. This critical discourse analysis of the American horror television show, Supernatural, uses a gender perspective to assess the stereotypes and female characters in the popular series. As part of this study 34 episodes of Supernatural and 19 female characters were analyzed. Findings indicate that while the target audience for Supernatural is women, the show tends to portray them in traditional, feminine, and horror genre stereotypes. The purpose of this thesis is twofold: 1) to provide a description of the types of female characters prevalent in the early seasons of Supernatural including mother-figures, victims, and monsters, and 2) to describe the changes that take place in the later seasons when the female characters no longer fit into feminine or horror stereotypes. Findings indicate that female characters of Supernatural have evolved throughout the seasons of the show and are more than just background characters in need of rescue. These findings are important because they illustrate that representations of women in television are not always based on stereotypes, and that the horror genre is evolving and beginning to depict strong female characters that are brave, intellectual leaders instead of victims being rescued by men. The female audience will be exposed to a more accurate portrayal of women to which they can relate and be inspired. Copyright © 2014 by Miranda B. Leddy All rights reserved TABLE OF CONTENTS Tables
